Knight Rider is an American television action series created and produced by Glen A. Larson and starring David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, a high-tech modern-day knight fighting crime, who drives a sentient talking car with artificial intelligence.
The series aired in the USA on NBC from 26 September, 1982 to 8 August, 1986. There are 90 hour-long episodes in four seasons.
The series originally aired in South Africa in the 1980s on the SABC's TV2 channel, which later merged with other channels to form CCTV - the forerunner of the modern-day SABC2.
It later aired on DStv's M-Net Series and FOX Crime channels, on SABC3 and on StarSat's (formerly TopTV) FOX Retro channel (first season only). See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.
Season 2 premiered on FOX Crime on Monday 31 March 2014, at 17h50. New episodes broadcast daily, on weekdays. There are 24 episodes in the second season.
Synopsis
Knight Rider is an action thrill-ride about a young man (David Hasselhoff) who fights crime with his super-advanced car, K.I.T.T., who has the ability to think and talk, often chiding others with his witticisms.
When a young detective is ambushed in a failed police stake out, he is believed to have been killed. But millionaire Wilton Knight finds him and saves him and gives him a new face.
It seems that Knight wants to wage a war against criminals who operate above the law. And Michael is the man he has chosen to wage that war.
He has created the ultimate car, the Knight Industries Two Thousand or K.I.T.T., which is laced with a virtually indestructible alloy and is also capable of moving on its own and also talks.
He gives the car to Michael and the new identity of Michael Knight.
Michael is assisted by one of Knight's associates, Devon Miles (Edward Mulhare). Bonnie (Patricia McPherson) is the mechanic who takes care of K.I.T.T.
During the second season Bonnie was replaced by April (Rebecca Holden) as the new mechanic. The following season she left and Bonnie returned.
In Season 4 the show acquired a new regular cast member, Peter Parros, who played Reginald Cornelius III, aka RC3.
