Down for the Guap (street slang for "Playing for the Money") is a South African reality competition game show in which each week someone challenges a friend of theirs to a challenging series of games, revealing just how far are people willing to go to win a cash prize of R10,000.
The series demonstrates the length friends are prepared to go to test their endurance and friendship for a piece of the prize.
The reality competition game show is hosted by the dynamic duo Larry and TJ from the dance group The Repertoires, who rose to fame as the stars of the Vuzu reality show Running with the Reps.
What better way to test a friendship than to convince besties to compete in outrageous and comical challenges for cash?
Contestants are challenged through a series of conventional and unusual games designed to entertain viewers, while testing how friends collaborate in challenging yet amusing situations.
In each episode, a victim is lured by a friend into a challenge to win the R10,000 cash prize. The nominated friend is compensated for merely accepting the challenge. More money is then offered to tackle a challenge by themselves to win a further R3,000.
Having bagged R5,000, the contestant is given the opportunity to double the money by teaming up with their friend to compete in the ultimate challenge against the two hosts.
Down for the Guap is produced by Launch Factory with executive producers Spero Patricios and Apollo Zake. Nikki Maistry is series producer and the series director is Eugene Naidoo. The series is a Vuzu Amp original production.
