Isikizi ("Disgrace") is a South African, Xhosa-language television drama series that follows the tragic story of an honourable but impulsive young man who runs away from his hometown in a desperate attempt to escape a dreadful prophecy that was decreed upon his life.
Inspired by the mythical Greek story of Oedipus and set in rural Eastern Cape, the leading character's journey begins when he returns from the mountains, only to overhear a dreadful prophesy that will change his destiny for the worst.
Isikizi will tackle issues of true love and its consequences, fate versus free will, the power of fear and the importance of honouring one's heritage.
Isikizi stars Phila Madlingozi, Zandile Msutwana, Chris Gxalaba, Timmy Kwebulana, Tina Jaxa, Vicky Kente, Khayakazi Kula and Sivenathi Ntshwanti.
Guest stars and recurring roles include Bongo Mbutuma, Ayanda Dlamini, Andrea Dondolo and Zoliswa Kawe.
Based on a concept by Bantuza Mchunu, the series was created and produced by Paw Paw Films, with creative producers Roberta Durrant and Janine Cornelius. The first episode was directed by Mandilakhe Yengo.
