Little Miss Jocelyn is a British sketch comedy television series created by and starring comedian Jocelyn Jee Esien and produced by Brown Eyed Boy, in which Esien plays a variety of characters to lampoon various aspects of British culture and society.
The series originally aired in the UK on BBC Three and BBC Two from 22 August, 2006 to 14 February, 2007. There are 12 half-hour episodes in two seasons.
Little Miss Jocelyn premiered in South Africa on DStv's GO channel on Monday 6 October 2008, at 22h00. The two seasons air back-to-back.
Season 1 Synopsis
Little Miss Jocelyn is a comedy sketch show featuring the irreverent comic talent of Jocelyn Jee Esien.
It features a host of humorous characters including the male rapper with a short man complex, the obese male Nigerian driving instructor, the white, female, Puerto Rican exotic dancer, the African traffic warden and the 16 year-old Top Shop sales assistant.
Some of the sketches are hidden camera, featuring real members of the public, allowing for hilarious situations to be created by characters, including the London tour guide.
Season 2 Synopsis
Written by Jocelyn Jee Esien (3 Non-Blondes), the show returns with a riot of sketches featuring some familiar faces from the first series, including Jiffy the over-zealous traffic warden and Mrs Omwukwopopo, the serial husband collector.
A host of new characters add to the anarchy, particularly a gaggle of elderly Jamaican women who enjoy nothing better than gatecrashing a good funeral.
We are also introduced to Prince William's latest girlfriend, whom he meets on a diplomatic tour of the Third World.
Viewers had better watch out as the second series of Little Miss Jocelyn is set to create even more havoc, with hidden camera stunts galore and the promise of an occasional celebrity cameo.
Characters
Prominent characters include:
Jiffy - One of Little Miss Jocelyn's signature characters, a dysfunctional traffic warden who gives people tickets for things like sleeping in the car or breaking down.
Florence - An overweight dietitian who uses Juju to help people lose weight.
Sheson - Sheson is a Cockney-Jamaican bus driver who is always unpleasant to her passengers, and whose accent seems to vary.
Paulette - A spoilt middle-aged woman who screams and cries when she doesn't get her own way.
Fiona - A middle-aged woman who works in an office who tries to conceal the obvious fact that she is black, however this rarely works and her "blackness" seems obvious.
Madame President - Also one of the show's signature characters. She is the first black female president of the USA.
Mrs Omwukupopo - A Nigerian women who is constantly in marriage counselling with her several husbands, and who often tries to make a move on the counsellor, or insult them, calling them a "pimp" or "prostitute".
Helen - A woman who is often seen in important places, such as at a wedding or an interview, where she rubs her buttocks along the floor. When the surrounding people look confused, she states, "I've got worms".
Gladys Kingston - An old Jamaican woman who is going through a divorce because her husband cheated on her. This makes her hate men or anyone of the male gender, whether young or old.
Sharonisha - A teenage schoolgirl who is seen with her friends. The scenes she is featured in are set on a bus, sometimes driven by Sheson. She is always seen talking to or about other passengers and asking them questions and often calls other passengers "pefodiles".
