New Year's in Newtown is an annual New Year's Eve concert and party held in Newtown, Johannesburg and broadcast live on SABC2, in which a variety of popular musical artists perform a concert to usher in the new year.
The event has been broadcast on SABC2 and SABC Africa since 2006.
New Year's in Newtown 2008 was meant to be broadcast live on SABC2 on Wednesday 31 December 2008, at 23h00, but the special was cancelled after the concert was called off due to inclement weather.

2008 ended on a high note as Newtown, Johannesburg's cultural hotspot, readied itself for the last big-bash concert of the year.
Hosted by the City of Johannesburg and SABC2, the New Year's in Newtown concert at the Mary Fitzgerald Square continued the tradition of ringing in the year with a bang.
The celebrations began at 18h00 on New Year's Eve and continued until 02h00 on 1 January, 2009.
More than 30,000 partygoers attended the New Year's party, which included a massive stage for live performers. The concert was free of charge.
The evening will be an explosion of sights and sounds, as the City welcomes in 2009 to the beat of Joburg's top performers and the skyline lights up with the sparkle of an electrifying fireworks display.
Confirmed acts include: Freshlyground, KB, Gang of Instrumentals, Wonderboom, MXO, Bleksem, Howza, Fikile Mlomo, DJ Zan D and DJ Zee.
The concert gives South Africans a party to connect with everyone across the country to welcome in the new year.
No alcohol or weapons will be allowed into the venue. However there will be a beer garden for those who'd like to welcome the New Year with a toast. The law enforcement agencies and Emergency Management Services will be present to maintain law and order, and attend to all emergencies on the night.
