Vodacom ThumbWars is a South African reality competition television series created by the Stimulii agency as a brand awareness campaign, in which each week four different age-diverse teams compete in a race around South Africa using services provided by the show sponsors.
The series premiered on SABC2 on Thursday 4 June 2009, at 19h30. There are 10 hour-long episodes in the first season.
Synopsis
The show sees contestants use mobile sms as their means of communication to compete in a treasure hunt for a grand prize of R1-million.
Teams will travel to 20 unique desinations across South Africa, relying on their wits, advanced communication technologies and their mobile phones as they take part in the treasure hunt of a lifetime.
Viewers will be given a weekly riddle to solve in the Sunday Times newspaper one week prior to each episode. An sms line will be made available for viewers and readers to submit their answers and a winner will be contacted towards the end of the show in a live crossover.
The entrant will be asked to pick a letter out of the word Vodacom and will stand a chance to win a selection of prizes – from cash to mobile phones to airtime.
