Synopsis
Commissioned by M-Net, this series replaces Carte Blanche Medical and Carte Blanche Consumer, which aired on the channel in 2010.
Carte Blanche Extra is an interactive show, championing the rights of consumers. The tagline, "it's all about you", sums it up - case studies are drawn from the viewing public and, based in the Carte Blanche newsroom, problems are dealt with in a consumer "war room".
Carte Blanche Extra, like the Sunday show, is a live broadcast, allowing for increased viewer interaction. The aim is to bring the viewer as close as possible to the show so that they can decide on content.
The show aims to solve consumer disputes speedily and live on air.
In the first episode of the series the Carte Blanche Extra team welcomed viewers to the news room and looked at complaints and queries submitted via the show website by viewers.
Among them: what to do if you find yourself in possession of an illegally imported car; who's to blame if you get injured at the gym; the team tries to find an answer to one of the hundreds of complaints about municipal billing in Gauteng and get out the scales to find out whether takeaways from fast food joints weigh as much as advertised.
In the second part of the show, "Bring It On", the team create a small, easily detectable fault that can be repaired at a reasonable cost and put plumbers to the test to see if they do an honest job.
