Sinbad is a British action adventure family saga television series produced by Impossible Pictures which is a 21st century take on the classic 8th century iconic hero, Sinbad, reinvigorating the hero's adventures for a contemporary audience.
The series premiered in the UK on Sky1 on 8 July, 2012.
Sinbad premiered in South Africa on M-Net and M-Net HD on Tuesday 7 August 2012, at 20h00. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are 12 episodes in the first season.
Synopsis
Hero or Villain? Sinbad is a 21st century take on the classic 8th century iconic hero, Sinbad, reinvigorating the hero's adventures for a contemporary audience.
On the run from his home town of Basra and under a curse for a killing that led to the death of his much-loved brother, the streetwise Sinbad finds himself cast out to sea.
Surviving a violent and magical storm, both Sinbad and his intriguing fellow ship-mates are forced to band together to face their inner demons, hopes, loves and fears.
The flawed hero embarks on an epic and emotional quest to rid himself of the curse and embrace his destiny. When mystical meets muscle anything can happen...
In the first episode of the series: when street rat Sinbad accidentally kills Lord Akbari's son, Akbari kills Sinbad's brother in revenge. Sinbad escapes, but his grandmother Safia places a curse on him that until he atones for his sins he can't stay on dry land for more than 24 hours.
Sinbad stows away on the Providence, but magical sea creatures attack and all on board die except for Sinbad; Anwar, the ship's doctor; Gunnar, a Norse trader; Nala, a noblewoman on the run; Rina, a thief and the ship's Cook.
