Season 17
The MTV Movie Awards is an American film awards show presented annually on MTV (Music Television). It also contains movie parodies that use official movie footage, with hosts and other celebrities and music performances.
The first awards ceremony was in 1992, with Dennis Miller as host.
The 2008 MTV Movie Awards (the 17th edition) airs in South Africa live on MTV on Monday 2 June at 02h00, with a delayed broadcast on MTVbase on Monday 2 June 2008, at 21h00.
A half-hour "pre-show" airs before the main event, which is two hours in length.
About the Awards
The MTV Movie Awards show is the kind of place where Jim Carrey becomes Jim Morrison, Will Ferrell makes out with Sacha Baron Cohen and Sarah Silverman tears Paris Hilton to shreds as the whole world watches.
It's the kind of place where Greg Brady makes out with Carol Brady. His mom. Yeah. Anything goes.
And anything is sure to go - look for re-enactments of mind-blowing Movie Awards moments, ridiculous categories, plenty of ways to participate online and, of course, an auditorium loaded with stars behaving badly.
Unlike all the other boring awards shows, the viewers decide who takes home the awards.
The nominees are decided by a special panel at Tenth Planet Productions, the production company headed by Joel Gallen, who also created the MTV Movie Awards. Winners are decided by the general public.
Voting is done through MTV's official website through a special Movie Awards link.
2008 MTV Movie Awards
A green ogre, a rock star wannabe, an international spy of mystery, an upcoming love guru and now host of the 2008 MTV Movie Awards, Mike Myers takes the reins for the seventeenth annual show taking place on Sunday June 1st at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.
This is Myers' second time hosting the alternative awards show. With the legendary golden popcorn up for grabs in such eccentric categories as “Best Kiss,” “Best Villain,” and “Best Comedic Performance,” the 2008 MTV Movie Awards promises more over-the-top moments than ever before.
The celeb-filled event is MTV’s irreverent nod to the typical awards shows celebrating the year’s best in movies, stand-out musical performances and more.
Hailed for clever, one-of-a-kind film parodies, sexy lip-locking moments from the likes of Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen, and outrageous acceptance speeches such as Mike Myers’ ode to Austin Powers with a mojo-induced dance number, the MTV Movie Awards has produced some of the most outrageous moments in award show history.
Mike Myers, star of the upcoming film The Love Guru - to be released in the US on June 20 - is one of the most multifaceted performers of his generation, having brought a distinct array of characters to life on both film and television.
For his groundbreaking work on "Saturday Night Live," Myers was nominated for an Emmy for "Best Performance in a Comedy or Variety Show" and won an Emmy for "Best Writing for Comedy or Variety Show."
