Season 2
Revlon Supermodel is a South African reality competition in which a number of aspiring models live together in a penthouse while strutting their stuff on the catwalk in the hope of winning an international modelling contract.
Each week the models perform on the catwalk in front of the judges, with one model (or sometimes more) being eliminated each week.
Season 2 was won by Elbe van der Merwe.
Season 2 Synopsis
The second season took place in mid-2006. The penthouse used to house the models was the Cornerhouse, famed as the location of another reality show, The Apprentice: South Africa.
18 South African models lived together in the penthouse while strutting their stuff on the catwalk in the hope of winning an international modelling contract in Italy.
Hosted by 5FM DJ Nicole Fox, the action happened over 11 episodes as contestants were put their paces by facing different challenges demanded of them in the modelling industry.
Judged on their performances by a panel of experts, the models were kept in the dark about eliminations, not knowing when they were happening nor how many of them had to leave each week.
The official panel of judges were:
Mary Reynolds: South African fashion show director
Paola de Vito: Head of Nama (National Assosiation of Model agencies)
Gerda Genis - Fashion photographer
Amanda Gowing - Fashion director of Glamour magazine
Each week the judges were joined by a variety of guest judges including TV personality Gerry Rantseli, Glamour Editor Bernina Venster and Egoli actress Brumilda Van Rensburg.
Over and above the Milan modelling contract, Van der Merwe also won the following prizes:
- A Toyota Yaris
- R100,000 from Revlon
- A wardrobe from Truworths
- An exclusive cover and photo shoot for Glamour
- Catwalk contracts for the Durban and Cape Town Fashion week
- A Kontiki holiday on the Greek island, Mykonos
- Gucci sunglasses
- A Canon camera
- An I-pod
