Revlon Supermodel is a South African reality competition in which a number of aspiring models live together while strutting their stuff on the catwalk in the hope of winning an international modelling contract.
Each week the models perform on the catwalk in front of the judges, with one model (or sometimes more) being eliminated each week.
The first and second seasons of the show aired on SABC2 in 2005 and 2006. The third season premieres on SABC3 on Saturday 3 November 2007, at 18h00, and ends on 29 December.
In Season 2 the models were housed in a CBD penthouse - in Season 3 they will live together at Montpellier de Tulbagh, an original Cape Dutch Wine Estate, in Tulbagh, Western Cape.
The chores the models have to perform in Season 3 are no longer exclusively industry-related - they also include daily farm chores like feeding the chickens and horses, baking, farmstyle-cooking and various other chores.
The show has been expanded from a half-hour show (the first two seasons) to a full hour-long show for Season 3, presumably to allow the producers to examine more closely the reality aspect of the series.
Aside from winning an international modelling contract, the winning model also receives a variety of other prizes, which differ each year.
There were 18 models in Season 2; this was whittled down to 16 for Season 3.
The action happens over a number of episodes (eleven in Season 2, nine in Season 3) as contestants get put through their paces by facing different challenges demanded of them.
Judged on their performances by a panel of experts, the models are kept in the dark about eliminations, not knowing when they're happening nor how many of them need to leave each week.
The second season was hosted by 5FM DJ Nicole Fox; the third will be co-hosted by former Miss Universe Michelle McLean and former Pitstop presenter Lise Swart.
