Season 7
Set in Toronto at the dawn of the 20th century, Murdoch Mysteries is a one-hour drama series that explores the intriguing world of William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson), a methodical and dashing detective who pioneers innovative forensic techniques to solve some of the city's most gruesome murders.
Murdoch's circle of associates includes Constable George Crabtree (Jonny Harris), Murdoch's eager and often naïve right-hand man; Inspector Brackenreid (Thomas Craig), Murdoch's skeptical yet reluctantly supportive boss; feisty pathologist Dr. Emily Grace (Georgina Reilly); and the love of his life, pathologist-turned-psychiatrist Dr. Julia Ogden (Hélène Joy), a staunch ally who shares the detective's fascination with forensic science and innovative ideas.
All are valuable allies who help Murdoch solve his varied cases and traverse the many stratums of Victorian-turned-Edwardian society.
As season seven begins on the first-ever Victoria Day, Murdoch is reunited with his beloved Julia aboard an opulent passenger ship on its maiden voyage. Their intimate time is short-lived, however, when the daughter of the ship's owner appears to have been pushed overboard.
Among the intricate investigations this season, Murdoch protects the life of inventor James Pendrick (Peter Stebbings) after someone is shot upon the reveal of his latest innovation – a film accompanied by sound.
Murdoch must also contend with movie madness taking over Station Four, as Brackenreid and Crabtree clamour for a part in Pendrick's latest film, which is based on the crime-solving adventures of the detective himself.
Sherlock Holmes (Andrew Gower) returns to assist Murdoch when a nanny disappears and her young charge is convinced the only person who can find her is Sherlock himself. The detective also contends with killer spiders, a sea monster, the mysterious death of a cyclist and facing down a zombie army.
Allan Hawco, the star and creator of the CBC series Republic of Doyle, appears as a flinty fortune hunter who leads Murdoch and Crabtree out of Canada to the Colony of Newfoundland. This affords Crabtree the opportunity to catch up with his aunts in his hometown of St. John's.
Murdoch and Julia's love deepens over the course of the season, but does not escape complication as the murder of Julia's former husband, Darcy Garland, continues to cast a shadow.
Crabtree and Dr. Grace's blossoming relationship faces its own issues as they struggle against their apparent class differences.
Murdoch Mysteries is produced by Shaftesbury in association with ITV Studios Global Entertainment.
