Synopsis
Spirit Sundae, as the name suggests, is a programme about Spirit and, like any good sundae, it is composed of a wonderful variety of ingredients.
The show reflects the broad spectrum of faith in South Africa from Christianity to African Traditional, in a lighthearted tone and manner.
Spirit Sundae's content consists of top celebrities, ranging from musicians, actors, politicians and ‘movers-and-shakers' to motivational speakers and captains of industries, who speak about their successes and bring in their own personal spirituality, allowing the viewer to see a side of them not often portrayed in the media.
The other guests are religious and community leaders from all faith backgrounds who contribute to weekly discussions, which aim to inform and educate the audience.
Weekly chats centre on social issues and encourage interfaith dialogue, tolerance and understanding.
The show is fully representational of all faith communities and regions, as insert producers in Durban and Cape Town provide regional stories for the show.
The magazine portion of the show delivers anything from interviews, festival foods, art, music and dance to a religious perspective on some of the breaking news in the Sunday papers.
The show was hosted by Buyile Mdlala and Nadine Naidoo for the first eight seasons. They were replaced in Season 9 by Nathi Buzani and Mzwandile Ngubeni, who in turn were replaced by Lutho John for Season 12.
