America Ferrera, the eponymous star of the hit sitcom Ugly Betty, has had her smile insured with Lloyds of London for a cool $10-million.
With an insurance policy waiting to pay out $10-million should her precious maw be somehow compromised, it seems there's plenty for America to smile about.
To be fair, Ferrera's award-winning portrayal of geeky Betty Suarez has ensured millions of lovely adspend dollars for ABC, the network that broadcasts it, and should her smile somehow be wiped from her dial everyone stands to lose a bunch of money.
Lloyds of London is no stranger to weird celeb insurance underwriting - they have previously insured Keith Richards' fingers, Marlene Dietrich's legs and Santa's beard. Actress Bette Davis even once insured her waistline against expansion.
That's a brilliant one actually. You're Bette Davis, kicking back doing what any normal screen siren does in their off-time, and you have an urge to pig out. You call up Lloyd's, insure your waistline for $10-million, eat a pie or five and call Lloyd's back with your new measurements, demanding your cash.
Flawless.
South Africans will finally get a chance to catch Ferrera's award-winning, highly expensive smile when
Ugly Betty premieres on M-Net in July.
