I was thinking (
yes, I was) of what it would be like should our beloved soapies/daily dramas (
South African only somblief) were to combine. Then I really started entertaining this to a point were I am thinking of putting together a proposal to SABC and eTV. Now I have thought of 5 reasons why it is a not-so-bad idea...
Combined SkillsHow about they take
strong points from the soapies and use them to produce
one quality show? I think (and I stand to be corrected) that if they took the
Laan’s ‘not-a-care-in-the-world/don’t-take-ourselves-too-seriously’ attitude; gave it
RC’s kasie flavour;
Isidingo’s good acting skills;
Scandal’s sense of humour;
some of
Gen’s wardrobe and make-up etc. and anything else you guys can think of...
Convenience for us – the viewersI don’t know about you guys, but I don’t like watching omnibuses, simply because they are on the weekend and I would be recovering from the happenings of the night before. And I will probably get sued by the battery companies because should the merger happens, we won’t be using our remotes as much, but wouldn’t it be great not to be conflicted at 18:30 every weekday??? And also, I can’t watch Muyango (Sori BS, couldn’t help it) because there is always something better to watch on TV at that time.
So the soapie (haven’t thought of a name, any suggestions?) will get the weekday 18:30 slot!Variety – shared resourcesWouldn’t it be great if Bra Eddie (Scandal) could go and have a drink at Tsalanang (Gen) without his daughter preaching to him about his drinking problem; Busi Dlomo would be great ko Mukwebo Milling (Muvhango); the girls in the Laan would have somewhere else to shop for either that that boutique (as long it’s not where Dinny buys her clothes) and maybe Gayle (RC) would teach them an interesting routine for once; Rachel (RC) would get a friend her own age (Mam’ Cathy or Madel Terblanche perhaps?).
Interesting plots – double IdentitiesSo Lumka (Gen) has gone to London? Wrong! She has found her mom (Rachel – RC), but Sbuda (Gen) doesn’t know this because he doesn’t listen to gospel music so he hasn’t come across Rachel Pakathi.
Mike (Isidingo) has disappeared and has cleaned his act, changed his identity David (RC) and opened a recording company. Imagine how Zeb (Isidingo) would react if they bumped into each other at Etwatwa (Muvhango). Mos Mike o’Rielly screwed up “Secure Hanging Walls’, neh?
And while Morongwe (Scandal) thought Alex (Scandal) has been in jail all this time, she finds out that he had been doing medicine and is now known as Dr. Leabua (Muvhango) and has even bought Humbulani (Muvhango) a brand new car!!!
Jack van Onsellen (Isidingo) is married to Charmaine.
Chicco (Isidingo) had found out that his reason for beating up Vanessa in Isidingo was because he was frustrated because he was an in-the-closet homosexual. A good thing Vanessa won’t find out that her ex-husbie is now a chef known as Jerome (7de Laan). I bet that they would be good friends now!!!!!
Healthy Competition Queen (Gen) is the latest to land a conquest (as far as I know) in soapieland, and I think Karabo(Gen) will pass on the “initiation” this time. So, who would give Queen a tough time on this one? Morongwe (Scandal)? She needs someone to make Alex jealous!!! Humbulani (Muvhango) wouldn’t mind making Steve (Gen) her number 3. And Ntombi (Gen) thinks Karen is a flirt??? Wait til she meets Paula (7de Laan) or Shakira (Scandal)
Okay, guys I wante to keep this short so that you could read it. Holler back with some more reason so that we can be included in the proposal!!!
