Yesterday was yet another day for a Movie Preview and what we went to see was called The diving bells and the Butterflies.
It was very different to what I've previewed and reviewed since the beginning of this year. It involved a lot of emotiong and thinking, yet entertaining at the same time.
shaving his father, back in the day while he could still stand on his two feet. Jean-do's father was very proud of him. his father's reassurance made him feel very proud of hiself too.
When the movie starts Jean-Do wakes up, he's on a hospital bed. The doctors and the nurses tell him he's been in a coma for three weeks. They tell him he cant talk or walk, paralysed from head to toe, he has has a stroke.
The good news, if any? his mind can function fully, he has not forgotten anything. he knows the names of his kids, he remembers his beloved, his dad, the mother of his kids and he even remembers who he was before the tragic accident -- the Editor of Elle Magazine.
He lived the good, glamorous life. Had it all, travelled the world, did it all. The doctors could not understand why he had a stroke because he was not a smoker, and only drank occassionally.
What I love the most is that all through out the movie, Jean-Do's thoughts are said out loud. His mind is very active and he speaks his mind, the only problem is no one can hear him (except the viewer, ofcourse) and they have to device a very interesting method for him to express himself and communicate.
they had to devide means for him to be able to communicate: A B C D .... and then he'd blink twice, if it was a letter he wanted to use. then blink once for NO.
News travelled fast, even to his hospital bed, he heared that some called him a vegetable. I loved his sense of humour though, he asked (in his mind) "what kind of vegetable, a carrot, a pickle?".
It was when he was hit hard by his circumstances when he had the strenght to do what he has always wanted to do. He wrote a book -- the diving bell and the butterfly, dedicated to his children. He thanked deeply the patient woman who wrote it -- as per his instructions.
The movie teaches us faith and hope. It teaches up to stand up and do what you've always wanted to do, irrespective of what the world might think. It was not easy for Jean-do, even the publisher asked how he was gonna do it because the man was motionless and mute. But he did, there was a will and a way followed.
I want to thank the two bloggers who critisised me and made me angry because if it went for them i was not gonna see this movie's preview. They left me in a state where I wanted to just do something to clear my mind off things. Well, i was gonna go to gym but the gym would not have made me enough justice as much as this movie did. The diving bell and the butterfly is just what my mind needed to see and equip at that time. And after this -- I will never let any critisism get to me, especially if you're just a molecule I dont know...who cares what your opinions of me ar anyway?
So me and my colleagues left the cinema Noveau without anyword to each other. We normally make noise and discuss the movie afterwards, but just not this one. We were all deeply touched and saddened to the core by this creative work of art, and mind you, it was based on a true story. So now I have a new fear, I no longer fear to be critisised and be told bull in front of everybody, I fear to be trapped in my own body. Visit your local cinema and find out when the movie come to SA....
So last week I went to another Preview and I saw War. It starred Jet-li, all grown and even more mean and tough. I didnt review it on TVSA because the movie was just full of action and noise and there really was no: Moral of the story....
Jet li and his men, in full force....dont mess, dont joke!
