Week One: Measurements and Diet Choice

Written by Khuselwa from the blog Cabbage Soup...and other diets on 18 Mar 2008

I have a bride's maid dress to fit into! And with only six months left to load-shed the extra 15 or so kilograms, at 99.9 kg (no rounding off!) I have a long hard way to go. At this point I'm willing to try any non-harzadous weight-loss inducing miracle. That excludes exercise and pills. And cutting out red meat from my diet.

Current Measurements:

Weight: 99.9kg
Height: 1.78m
Waist: 105cm
Hips: 122cm
Chest: 107cm
Upper-arm: 39cm

Chosen Diet:

"Eat like a king at breakfast, like a middle-class person during lunch and like a poor person for supper." My 15-year old cousin has sworn that following this works effectively!

Since I've never been in any of the mentioned social classes (joking), I thought the following would do:

Breakfast - rice/pap/pasta/samp with vegies and meat
Lunch - a bowl of lettuce salad
Supper - a peanutbutter sandwich with a glass of milk.

Exercise

None for now. Maybe later.

Next week I will have the data that will either prove or refute the claims made about this diet. I will also select a different diet for that week, judging by this week's weather in Jozi it just might be cabbage soup!

Have you ever wanted to lose weight and succeeded in losing it? How did you do it?

he he he Khuselwa, I just might join  you on this diet. I have just completed a special K diet and i think i lost more centimeters than kilos.

I'm not sure about the peanut butter sarmie and milk for supper------i'd rather have cereal and low-fat/skim milk or go without. How much time till the wedding??

Oh and i once tried DUROMINE appetite suppresants and they made me more thirsty than i needed to be and made my mouth dry and made me feel hot most of the time and i did lose 2kg's. During the week it's easy to maintain a weight-loss plan....it's the weekend that messes ur plan up!!

I am lost do you want to seriously lose weight because those things to exclude will be fastest way you can load shed.

Best bet would be cutting out frying and only eat things that have been boiled or grilled. Boil your red meat and take it out before it starts to fry with its own fat and no spices. reduces the chance of enjoying your food.

To lose weight, you must eat healthy meals morning noon and evening. Make sure that you dring hot/warm water(1litre) after every meal.
During weekends if you are not working, work your butt off cleaning the house.
Eliminate things like chocolate/chips/biscuits and sweets(it's hard but the body get used to it) and you will see the difference without going to the gym.
Make sure that you don't eat later at night, minutes before you go to bed. It will take time but it will make the difference especially if you drink that hot/warm water(it terrible at first but also the body get used to it)

Sorry for not replying sooner bathong, this load shedding combined with iEasters has messed my schedule and plans up! Thank you though for all the replies, truly appreciate them.

Toxic...I'll try the Special K diet next week, if it could make me lose my 'bye-bye' upper arms I'd be ecstatic! Am a bit scared of taking appetite suppresants though (any pills in fact), but if the wedding date comes closer without any progress I  just might take them.

Belz...Congratulations gal, geez abanye abantwana balucky yazi.
Addictv...khuselwa: Firstly, congratulation on your upcoming wedding!

I wish! I'd have to get a man first, do the dating thing for at least a year...Too time consuming!

but ke if you are a bridesmaid, its not important to lose wait...hehehe, you might be right there, don't want to outshine the bride! Hayi maan Belz, I have to get a man kaloku and weddings are the right place ngoba the mood is alread set for love.

Addictv...I'd be happy if you'd send me that diet, I don't quite know how the PM thing works, but I'll try to PM u my email addy.

Pullie...12Kg in 6 weeks??? Wow! That means i can start buying ii skinny jeans mos! I've been wanting to get my stuff into a pair of those for ages!!! I'll PM you to get the details.

Username...Eish sisi, am just too lazy (and that's the truth) to get up and exercise! Maybe later on, but now I just want to see a few kilos lost then maybe I'll be motivated to get moving.

Spice...Am at Jozi, Dube Soweto. Two slices of bread? With nothing in between? Yhooo, this sounds hard. My tummy is rumbling in protest already! I'll try it for a week and see how it goes.

Hehehehe@ Tshepiso, you are so right! At least that's what my BMI indicates! Gosh, I've never thought of myself as obese...eish, truth hurts!

take a lot of sex, 5-6 rounds per day...This sounds like a lot of fun!!! All I'm missing is a man...5-6, is a bit much, methinks. I don't want to have a heart attack Tshepiso!

Amon, by healthy do you mean green and raw? If it means I won't need to exercise then I guess I have no alternative.

Floh...Izobaleka naleyondoda, wena Khuselwa ungamlaleli usekabi, rgha hehehehehe, when I was younger I could manage 3 rounds at the most.

Thanks everyone! I will post my current stats today. Maybe if I'm brave I will also upload a BEFORE photo, so that we all know what I'm working with. Definitely not for the faint hearted!!!

You need dumb-bells for that or that thing people do with a chair behind them-looks like squats but you hold on to a chair-facing away from it.

Khuselwa
25 Mar 2008 03:49

What weight is reasonable? For the dumb-bells I mean. How heavy should they be?

Toxic you are i moderator mos, how do I upload pictures to be included in the body of my article?

Toxic
25 Mar 2008 03:58

U don't wanna break your back lifting so start off with 2kg or more if they are light enough for you. Then work your "weight" up till you get that definition on your arms...

To upload.......on the blogs menu options, click on upload image, browse and insert your image. Then click on that button that looks like an image of a mountain with the sun rising behind it and select  the pic to add in the body of your article (in edit mode).

@Khuse... girl I really feel ya! I'm in the same dilema of wanting to lose weight.  I'm a size 44, not a very big eater but have always been quite big....I've been blessed/cursed with the type of body that can only change if put under very extreme pressure!!!!

I've been going to the gym for 2 and a half years, 4-5 days a week. Any significant weight loss only starting to show as from December last year.... boy its hard work I tell you.  I never used to like eating salads and boiled vegetables before but end of last year I decided to take the plunge and change my eating habits.  This combined with exercise started paying dividends, but becoz I'm allergic to scales, I really don't know how much I've lost....but judging by my clothes, I've drop 2 dress sizes.

I've still got a fairly long way to go and I hope I've got the strength to see it through...coz it's not easy and sometimes I have my down days, but even though I  treat myself once over the weekend, I quickly get back on track by having a detox usually on a Monday and then continue where I left off.

Different things work for different people!!  Best of luck to all who're in the same predicament!!

Khuselwa
25 Mar 2008 06:27

Thank you Toxic...

Trix I envy your will-power!!! So you live on salads (of the green variety I presume) and boiled vegies only? Meat???

allergic to scales...hehehe, have heard that I should stay off those in the first few weeks otherwise I'll be discouraged.

I have successfully succeeded in doing so. and do not be fooled: NO DIET WORKS.

if you want to lose weight and keep if off you'll have to invest in something more than a cabbage soup -- Excersise.

ever since i've joined the gym i have not looked back, i'm addicted to it. the gym is the most disciplined way to excersise because you know they are taking money from your salary every month so you might as well go and use their fascilities.

Go to gym my dear, or buy a Taebo DVD (but only if you know you will discipline yourself)

I still have to lose some more, from 80kg (when i started gym)  to 67kg (my current weight).

Duromine is a very very good drug for diet, i lost almost 2 kg per week.
To get satisfaction result, you need to get in duromine for 3 months minimum.
3 months is long enough for you to learn how to do real diet (food manipulation) so when you're no longer on duromine, you can switch to healthy eating habit as duromine replacement. The problem is, duromine is hard to find it out there. This situation is not good, because it's human nature to get more curious with something like this (hard to find one) and encourage them to searching even more. Duromine is good drug if you know how to use it correctly, like 3 months max limit rule, eat ONLY one cap at breakfast, try to learn food manipulation diet, etc etc. Remember, more power you have (accesibility to duromine), more responsibility you got.
