Let me start off by stating what I believe.
I believe in a greater power. I believe that this greater power is God. I believe that this God is the ruler of all things. I believe that God has a plan for all of us, but it is up to us to realise this plan, with help from Him.
It is this belief of mine that sometimes leaves me dumbfounded at the things I see happen in the world around me.
When I speak of a greater power, I am aware that some might view this greater power in a different way, that’s one of the things that make us different as humans.
The purpose of this article, is to get a feel about what bloggers think about these powers, and I am truly hoping for serious responses, (lately we’ve been talking about the fun element of TVSA, so I just thought I should mention that.)
I will map out 3 personal scenarios for you, scenarios which have made me wonder.
Scenario 1
The story: A dear friend of mine had been having trouble landing a permanent job. She had however managed to buy a car using her dad’s name. She was very worried about her job, her relationship with her fiance which was under serious strain and her life in general. Her aunt took her to a prophet, who told her that someone was out to get her. Someone wanted her dead, and this would happen via an accident, maybe not her car, but an accident in a car. He also told her that this person was the reason for her strained relationship with her fiancé. Furthermore, her prospects of getting a proper job would remain dim unless a “ceremony” was performed by her parents on her behalf.
The outcome: Some of you might remember an article I wrote about a friend of mine who had been in a near fatal accident. This was a few weeks after she had been warned about the accident. Fine. The relationship? I cant really say much about that, I think she pretends all is well.
The job? Still nothing, her parents still haven’t performed the ceremony.
My thinking: I’ll start with the job. Being the believer that we play a big part in the way our lives turn out, I honestly think that this is in her hands. My friend is very close to finishing her diploma, but she has put it on hold for certain reasons, so right now, her highest qualification is Matric. So obviously, without a proper qualification, it doesn’t take a prophet to realise that your job prospects are limited, unless you do something for yourself.
The accident? I must admit, this had me a little freaked out, ok, very freaked out. You see, my belief tells me that the highest power is God, that no human can hold the fate of another human in their hands. I strongly believe that. Perhaps we are not dealing with humans here, surely? So on this matter, I have to say, I am not clear. As far as the accident is concerned, I think God intervened, He is great, and what He wants to happen, will happen. I will rest at that.
The relationship – no diagnosis.
Scenario 2
Story: Ok, this one involves me. It also involves a prophecy(don’t ask, I seem to be surrounded by these things). Ok, an uncle of mine informed my grandmother that a prophet had told him that someone wants to “take” my car, and unless it was “fasad” (hmm, fasad refers to the strengthening of a car so it becomes immune to theft, accidents, hijacking etc), it would be gone. Fine. I was told this, and naturally, was scared somewhat. Going out at night was no longer the same.
I decided it wouldn’t hurt to have my car “fasad”, and so I did. By the way, this resulted in a hole in the carpet, but I wont go into it as I’m still not over this, and speaking about it will bring me to tears.
Outcome: So my car’s deemed safe. My friend and I decide to do Sandton City during the day. On our way back, while waiting at a red traffic light, I hear the car behind me hooting. We then realise that some guy was trying to open the door on the passenger side, but fortunately the doors were locked. Hmmm.
My thinking: Ok, so maybe open the passenger side of the door wouldn’t have resulted in a hijacking, or maybe it would have. I don’t know. Fact of the matter is that we were in a potentially dangerous situation, and had had the sense to lock the doors before it happened. So was this because the car was fasad? Or was it because my God was looking out for me. Perhaps the two work hand in hand? Maybe my car being fasad was God’s way of protecting me? Maybe. Maybe not.
Scenario 3:
Story: Those of you who watch Soweto TV will know of a “psychic” on the channel, her name escapes me right now. Two of my friends were presented with the opportunity to go on the show, and have their questions answered. They did so, asking questions ranging from the prospects of job promotions, to marriage and children.
Outcome: Since their questions were based on the future, I can’t speak much about the outcome, maybe in a later dated article.
My thinking: Well, were do I start? Pyschics, fortune tellers, call them what you will, its another form of prophecy isn’t it? Perhaps even a “white” form of prophecy. How does one begin to explain how they can see into my future?
Ok, so those are my stories, they’ve led me to wonder. However, I am not moved in my belief that God is the highest power, and believing in him, allows you to remain immune to any evil that may be directed your way. Perhaps I am naïve, but it is truly what I believe.
Fellow bloggers, lets share? Do you guys believe anyone has the power to direct another humans life in a certain way. Do you believe in prophecies?
What have been your experiences?
