The first batch of dancers have been selected following the Joburg auditions for So You Think You Can Dance South Africa, and now the focus moves to Durban, where would-be dancers can try their luck on Sunday, 13 July.
In Joburg, entrants showed off their skills in a variety of dance styles, from classical to contemporary, including some entertaining hip-hop, popping and street dance displays.
The judges - Adele Blank, Harold van Buuren, Didi Moses, Debbie Rakusin and David Matamela - were impressed with the standard of dancing, and ended up choosing 14 contestants to go through to the top 40.
The top Joburg contestants making it through to the next round are (spot the TVSA member!):
Justin Mancer
Kgotatso Ramphomane
Laura Jean de Vries
Kim McCusker
Thabo Seabi
Kristia Wilson
Chantell Joubert
Nonhlanhla Makhathini
Megan Erasmus
Bathembu Myira
Carmen Harris
Robyn Brophy
Jaco van Rensburg
Thabani Ntuli
The selection reflects a mix of amateur and professional dancers. Van Rensburg is well known in theatre circles for his performances in musicals such as Chess, “Noni” Makhathini recently danced in The Lion King, and both Myira and Ntuli are company members of SA Ballet Theatre.
Next up on the auditioning itinerary is Durban’s B.A.T. Centre on 13 July, before the judges head to 14 Hope Street in Cape Town on 19 July, and wind up matters on 30 July at the Port Elizabeth Opera House.
Entrants must be between the ages of 18 and 30, and are required to choreograph an original, two-minute dance routine for their audition and supply their own music.
If you're going, you should bring your ID with you and enrol at the venue on the day of the audition, between 07h00 and 14h00.
