Player brutality somehow reared its ugly head once again, renewing fresh calls for the Referees Review Committee to call the perpetrators to book. The foul on Tshepo Bulu by Maritzburg United defender Gary Goldstone was disgraceful to say the least. Orlando Pirates were on the receiving end of Goldstones brunt when he still played for Bloemfontein Celtic the victim on that day was former player Jabu Mahlangu.
And who can forget the Perry Mutapa incident back in 2005 against Maritzburg United when Molefi Ace Ntsoelengoe elbowed him in the mouth, knocking out his two front teeth. Mutapa wears false teeth today because of that injury. Or the incident last season when Pirates' captain Lehlohonolo Seema suffered an acute fracture to the skull after being struck on the forehead by Wits Dale Studzinski.
I know some might say, football is a contact sport and its all in the name of the game agreed. But what I condemn is the manner in which some players clearly disregard the rules of the game with the intention of hurting or injuring a player from the opposing team. This is totally wrong and should be dealt with. We dont expect players to go out there to shorten what is already regarded a short-term career.
I would like to congratulate the PSL for acting swiftly on this recent incident by calling Goldstone in for a DC hearing. According to reports the hearing took place today. I also want commend Goldstone for owning up to his misdemeanour and apologising to the player for his actions.
Come on gents, stop this brutality on one another and continue doing what you do best, playing soccer and entertaining the crowd. This sport is known as the Beautiful Game and it attracts billions of supporters across the globe. You guys are the orchestrators and we are the audience who come to the stadium to witness artistry at work and not another episode of Gladiators or WWE.
AYOBA!!!!!!!!!!!
