What your wheelz say about you...or maybe not

We hear people say this all the time, eish………Beemer drivers!!!!!!!They think they own the road. They think their cars are better than ours. We hear it all the time. Does it also happen with you guys, that people make assumptions about you, based on your wheels? For instance, Golf drivers are thought to be bo mmamenate-nate le bo rramenate-nate (Party animals) .Merc drivers especially guys, people either assume that they are stuck up, or they are sugar daddies, I don’t know why.Tazz drivers are thought to either be broke or plain stingy, whatever happened to buying something that you like??

Hummer, X5, Q7 are said to be dikoloi (cars) tsa ma BEE….come on people.Yaris I know is popular with the sisters, and a lot of brothers say that these ladies ba phapha, they think way too much of themselves. Jetta (especially the latest models) drivers are thought to have been fun….once upon a time!! I could just go on and on.

Do you guys also find that people judge you based on the car that you drive, and do the ladies also pick guys to date based on their wheels? (Tell the truth ladies …LOL), same question to the brothers. I’m also curious when people buy cars now, do they buy quality, and what appeals to them personally, or they buy based on what hot at that specific time?....eish I just remembered something, while still living in Bloem, I was at some pub,as I’m about to leave, I hear whistles and I go see what’s happening……..and then, I find a guy revving a Tata indica, like a mother!! Of course ne re sa utlwe engine, but then clearly those guys who were whistling, were entertained LOL (no offence to anyone who drives a Tata)…..Lets hear what you guys have to say!!!

I wish people would understand this. If I earn a certain amount, and I don't have a car, it means that that's about R2000 upwards that I'm saving on a car instalment and insurance. The moment I buy a car, I'm now using about R3000 average to fund this car, which means effectively, I have less money than before. But no, thee moment you buy a car, people think you have money, hai man!

As for the type of car...Eish, I think people first judge you because you drive...period. Which i find stupid coz mina the way I see it, everyone drives these days, it's not that big a deal.
As for the type of car, well, mina to me it just says what type of person you are. Like if you drive a beemer, I think you are the type who doesn't mind attention, whereas if you are a volvo s40 driver, I think you are classy. Ya.

I have a friend who is a Senior Accountant at a reputable company and he drives a City Rythm, so basically I don't think u are what u drive. In life there are people that don't really find it important to reflect their salaries by the cars trhey drive.

Tsho, konje the topic of this blog is "What you wheels say about you"...Tox you reminded me...

My wheels say I like simple things in life, without compromising their quality. I like beautiful things, and I am laid back, and do not want too much attention.

My wheels say i don't have time to clean the car-it's always dusty and looks like someone lives in it
Tox, my car used to look like a dump, and I'd get embarassed each time someone would come in it. Then I started realising that my male friends' cars look cleaner than mine, in fact, their cars are always clean, and they even have young kids, mara they maintain their cars in good condition. Since then, I've decided to make an effort. And it's not that my car was dirty really, it just had a lot of stuff. I'd even think twice about giving someone a lift coz it would mean I have to move stuff from the seat....eish, mara manje, no more. My car is looking cleaner by the day.

judging people with cars ... all that comes to my mind when someone drives an expensive car is that they shem unemali (as in he has money). But ke i find it stupid to drive those fancy cars and still rent a place and in often times youth(especial guys) with those fancy cars rent their places.

I drive a small petite car. I did not choose it but someone chose it for me. I still love it though, I look good in it.

Anyways just saying that sometimes people would love to drive other cars but it's the pocket that speaks and most of the time it's not the person. So I believe cars don't "define" who you are or what type of a person you are.

Cars worth R560m repossessed

Johannesburg - Every month Absa reclaims up to 1 350 vehicles from consumers who can no longer afford them, says Marcel de Klerk, a senior manager at Absa's vehicle and asset financing division.

This is almost 30% more than in the corresponding period last year. Most of the vehicles, about 80%, fall in the R120 000 to R130 000 category, with the repossessed vehicles averaging R80 000 in value."

De Klerk says that vehicles taken back each month are possibly worth R560m.

About 30 000 vehicles are sold every month in South Africa. "Vehicles taken back lose a further 35% of their value. The industry and banks are therefore losing a lot of money in current market conditions."

De Klerk adds that the provisions of the National Credit Act do not make things any easier.

"The National Credit Act determines that vehicles can now be paid off over a maximum period of 72 months, instead of the previous 54. People are buying more expensive cars that they actually can't afford, and after 72 months they land up with a balloon payment that is more than the car is worth.

"The more expensive cars also mean consumers have to pay more for services and insurance. Consequently it becomes impossible for vehicle owners to trade their cars in for newer models after two or three years. In this way the industry loses as well."

De Klerk says there is a clear relationship between vehicle payment terms and bad debts.

"The good news, however, is that arrears levels seem to have stabilised. This is probably because of high interest rates. We do however believe that the high rate of repossessions will continue."

The Credit Act further stipulates that deposits are not needed on vehicles. As a result no capital is paid off in the first two years. De Klerk reckons younger persons, lower-income households and first-time buyers are hardest hit by the impact of the Credit Act.

He counsels prospective buyers not to opt for the 72-month term, but rather to buy cheaper cars.

"In more than 50% of all Absa's vehicle-financing deals consumers go for the 72-month option. The same number of buyers elect not to pay a deposit, and 30% of all buyers land up with an enormous balloon payment at the end of the 72-month period."

The one guy I"m thinking of who drives that Volvo is actually a speed freak, and he brougth the 2.4 turbo what what for that reason. He's been caught clocking over 200km/h when he drives home. I'm always reprimanding him for that. He once picked me up for a drive, and I told him "never again". that is so true yazi, am from PTA and moved to Durbs a year ago and was so suprised as to how particular people here are about their cars.

when i move to the nearby suburbs i hardly ever see these people living in any of these places. i realized that Durbanites prefer to live ezilaleni and some park their cars outside or in some shady car port.

well some still live with their parents and they've got smaller rooms outside the main house, we use to call those boysrooms ko PTA.

Some have built nice big houses ezilaleni which I don't have a problem with but then a house in the suburbs is worth more than the one ezilaleni, hard pill to swallow but true.

yeah people here are so into cars.

Please Note:It doesn't look nice to park an expensive car near by umjondolo coz people will think u have visitor while you a family member: and they even say ubani -ke lo oshaya ngemoto enhle kanje ovakashe lapha kasbanibani while kwiyimto yakhona.

Its all a matter of prefence....Whatever makes me happy I shall do even if it makes the next door neighbor envious or have questions..

At the end of the day its your money and how you spend it is entirely up to you...People should not judge or even question how people spend their money----you can't label people and class them cause of that...

Hey guys when we got there you won't believe that there was one round room luckily they paid for itende and she was very shy to see us there but there was nothing she she was going to di coz we were already there and we were not there to see how her home look like but we were there only for her mother's funeral.

As a Tazz driver I am taking offence. My car is everything I want. Goes from point A to B and is comfortable. It doesn’t define who I am but what MY pocket can afford. It says “Billionaire in the making”

But when the new corsa came out, my friend was looking to buy vele, so we went to check it out at the dealership. That car looks really really good in a 2 door, and it's ok in a 5 door. Yes Cande! Irene has got an owner...she owns 76% of the land and Propperties there!I will get her full name so that you can google her...some women are rich out there!

I'm not sure I agree with this statement or understand what you mean Farai. People bought plots/land and they built their own homes. those people own their land + properties. Like Cande said, saying a person owns Irene is like saying a person owns a town?? If you had said that she used to own a certain amout of land and she developed this (into complexes and individual stands)and sold it off, then I will understand. Once a developer has completed building or selling then the whole place belongs to the buyers...he/she doesn't have ashare or say on what's happening there!

What've noticed here in Gauteng, particularly in Pretoria, people couldnt care less what u r driving UNLIKE KZN:

that is so so true, people here in KZN r so amazed as to how I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE EXPENSIVE CARS THEY DRIVE. I hav a colleaque friend who just bought a VW EOS, and the other two just bought Mercs Kompressors and to tell u the truth I'm happy for them, even though I can afford to buy these cars, I personally believe that I should not spend so much money on a car, but like i said, that's me.

Bloggers, I don't believe that the car I drive, defines the me inside.
I have the following:
HTC TyTN II (Stylus), - this is a work phone - tool of the trade so I didn't pay a cent for it nor subscription.
iPhone 16gb - this is my personal phone.  Before the upgrade I was on Talk 500 and only had to pay R78 extra per month to get the iPhone.
I drive a PT Cruiser Cabrio - my salary package is structured in such a way that I get a car allowance.  At some point I was driving a Kadett 200IS and the tax man nailed me big time at the end of that financial year.  So I decided to get this car to break even.
Two door being someone's first car????? Well it is my 4th car.  And yes, I do have parents and they do "hhumel" at the back. There is more than enouch space for them to hhumel.  The front seat can be adjusted you know mos.

Having said all the above, I REFUSE TO DATE NTATE NJE WA DITEDU DRIVING A TAZZ. :-)

Farai I must admit it's nice to be in a topless car, the attention you receive iyhoo iyhoo iyhoo and I know ekasi you'll get amafluits and a merc is very very comfortable, but it's just that,a feeling.

I'd rather have a nice, comfortable expensive house, cos I'll spend most of my time  in that house, and at least I'll leave my kids one day with a house they can call their own and hopefully it'll be paid off.

I know it's all about preference blah blah blah but u still have to be sensible.
if u have lots and lots of spare moolah lying around somewhere WELL GO FOR IT, but if u're gonna pay a monthly installment haikhona.

@ Codey.............My car says: She is a LSM1/3.... finnish and klaar! At least I own it 100%... don't owe no bank money that I do not have Thank you Tha-bang hence I dont have a single debt in my name. Power starring or not, it is the love of my life, i wouldn't trade it for anything!!!
Remember you told us that your mother left you rich ( inherittance/inherrited) it is not all of us who have that lucky, and one other thing you should bear in mind, we buy cars through instalments because of our careers, I am consulting and car is a must have, I cannot catch a taxi to Germiston, Midrand, and Pretoria in one day. I think I have to defend the debt free point.

It is summer and we will see many of the old cars along the yellow lines in the roads, ziyacisha.

Back to the Q?  What does my car says about me ? i don't know cause i am not a showoff kinda like person, anyone who can define fiesta drivers, please help.

Tshidi21.............Rock on your fabulous cars fabulous people....as long as it won't be the one I buy at a repo auction... beware of the foetstoets ( whatever they call it) sometimes you go for a better car or worse.
