The Reservoir Dogs Of Hair
Hanson Ndabeni, GM of Mizani hair products, with SASA
5 of the 6 hairdressers were dude's - the show was sponsored by Mizani and all the stylists were from the group. I know men are very into doing hair blah blah but there was something hysterical about watching them go so crazy - they were waay more into things than the chicks who were doing the make-up.
It had to do with each of them being dressed according to how they were working their styling:
Rockfeller: who's arms and whole body flew all over place - same as the loudness of his shirt.
Douglas: a nerdy McNerdison who concentrated madly.
Lawrence: quiet and understated in his white shirt. It was impossible to get a shot of him actually working - everytime I tried to, he zoned in on the hair so I couldn't get his mug in the pic
Sbu: who kept wanting to put Afro wigs on everyone, including himself.
and Kabelo, who was so into things he had no clue he was flashing
crack.
Say Aaaaah
The runway being readied before the show.
The view as the audience entered. The face represents Venantia Otto, who won the show in 2006.
The show's fashion director Dirk De Waal. Get this - he told me the tattoo's supposed to represent the "Anti-Christ of fashion" to reflect how much he loathes fashion. It's why I've always been iffy about fashion types and shows - they don't make any sense.
The view of the stage from within the audience.
After Party Spottings! The show After Party happened around the Superbowl - in a place with three different storeys. I have no clue where we went nor how we got there, I just sort of found it:
Nonhle Thema was there
With Channel O producer Soli Moeng, who's been producing the channel for about six months. He does all the planning i.e. the type of music that's going to be featured, checking out how trends are moving etc.
Soli's chest. I couldn't help but suspect it represents Nonhle.
Gaetano Kagwa spent the evening proving that being in the Big Brother house genuinely does drive you out of your mind.
Blowing bubbles. I know.
In between the lunacy he seemed very tight with
Sami Sabiti.
Their photographer: Kaone Karlo, 2005 Face Of Africa winner.
Kaone was also on this years scouting panel.
Blasting back from the past (shell-shocked): Doreen Morris, one of M-Net's first continuity presenters.
Rosie Motene was going so wild you have no idea.
She was at the centre at least 5 bathong! conversations I eavesdropped through the night.
Overheard: I left the party at about 2am and apparently once it was over at the Superbowl it continued in Studio 53's Terence's room until morning, with Sami in the heatt of the action.
Boogy NightsThe Face Of Africa schmodels spent most of their time dancing on a special stage type thing - I danced with them for us:
Parting Shots
The Reservoir Dogs. Together 'til the end. They'd make a great Hair reality show don't you think?
