Curious Pictures has confirmed that a third season of the drama series The Lab will definitely be happening next year.
Moving from it's Season 2 Sunday night timeslot, it premieres on SABC3 on Tuesday, 6 January 2009 at 20h30.
The new season centres round the tagline "How far would you go?". According to producers, each character will be stretched to the limit of their personal morality in a struggle to defend the consequences of their achievements and define what their legacy is in terms of right and wrong.
Regular leading cast who return to the season are Mothusi Magano as Mingus, Fana Mokoena as Jaws, Graham Hopkins as Monty, Terence Bridgett as Monty’s lover Andre and Shoki Mokgapa as Tumi.
Those not returning are Nambitha Mpumlwana as Pearl - Pearl's joined the government - and Shannon Esra as Samantha, who's left the company and everyone associated with it.
Three new principal cast will join the season: Khabonina Qubeka (Muvhango) as Faith - a mysterious investment partner who's involved in a crime syndicate, Renate Stuurman (Song for Katryn, Isidingo) as Pamela - who takes over Jaws' position as chief deal-maker; and Shelley Meskin (Jeruselema) as Pike, a confidence trickster who becomes Mingus' life coach.
The season will also feature various directors directing different episodes. Rolie Nikwe, creative director of Rhythm City, directs three episodes as does Vincent Moloi. Moloi has experienced international success with his documentary films, A Pair of Boots and a Bicycle; and Men of Honour. He also directed the mini series Society.
Thabang Moleya also joins the directing team. His credits include the short film Jozi H and awards for projects including Portrait of a Dark Soul, Room 302 and Case 474.
They are joined by the show's longtime LAB director Tim Greene (Tsha Tsha, Hard Copy and the film Twist) who takes on two episodes of the season.
Moonyeenn Lee returns as the series casting director, Rory O’Grady steps in as the Director of Photography and the writing team is led by Darrel Bristow Bovey.
