Season 1 of the kykNet reality show Boer Soek 'n Vrou (Farmer Wants A Wife) recently ended in a couples-with-couples reunion at a villa in Camps Bay.
The 13-episode series premiered at the end of September and saw 10 farmers and farmettes looking for their soul mates by sifting through letters sent to them by viewers.
At the reunion show the 10 contestants got together to show off the produce they met through the show. One had found marraige material, another had found love, someone else found "what they searching for" while another found that he couldn't read.
Swellendam farmer Herman received letters from Lania and decided he couldn't strike up a relationship with her via post. The two met face-to-face on holiday in Mossel Bay and hit it off.
“On the outside we are different, but on the inside we are the same,” Herman told the show's host Elma Postma.
Also on the love boat are Tiaan and Hesmari. Tiaan pulled out at the start of the series, after he met Hesmari. She was one of the women who wrote to him, but she couldn't participate in the show. He wanted to meet her and after their first introduction, he left the show to be with her.
“I feel that Tiaan has integrity and he handled the situation in the right way,” Hesmari said. “We are friends now and it is the foundation on which things must be built. Then, only positive can result.”
The three farmers who didn't find love or a "we're good friends" relationship were Constant, Engela and Joachim - who received the most letters out of everyone.
His take on his lack of success despite going postal: "I am disappointed that I did not find love, but I am still myself and I am not going to change."
Following the reunion kykNet announced that Season 2 is signed and sealed to happen early this year - date still to be confirmed.
