Last night ( 23 February) 20-year old Thabs Kgoroeadira from Johannesburg and 18-year old Thuba Myeki from P.E. were the first two Idols voted out of Idols 5 in the first Results Show of the season.

Viewers voted from the end of Sunday night's show through to five minutes before the end of the results announcement and when the votes were tallied it was Thabs and Thuba who had the fewest votes.

Idols host Liezel van der Westhuizen began the votedown by dividing the Top 14 into two groups - one group was safe and another was in danger of going home. All of the "Maybe's" waited expectantly and Liezel announced Thabs' elimination first.

After saying goodbye to Thabs, Daniel, Thuba, Suzzi and Jason remained in the hot seat. Liezel reminded them what the judges said about each of their performances, the vote was revealed and Thuba became the second Top 14 to leave the show.

On Sunday (1 March)  the remaining Top 12 perform in the second and final Studio Round and viewers will send two more performers home next Monday (2 March).

After this the Top 10 will move to the Teatro at the Mosaïc in Johannesburg for the first of the live Spectaculars - during this phase they'll be allowed to accompany themselves with instruments.

I am with you there ThatDude . Very predictable. Sorry to say I did'nt even bother voting. Next week the remainder of the tokens will be gone. It's never about the singing anyway and Mara did'nt do Thabs any favours. How sad.

I wish they could bring back the Coca Cola Pospstars or something....cause it it clear....Idols is white man's show period, from the way the judge the voices right to the actual winner.

I am generally a person who does not take out the race card often but in this case I think more black people should vote coz somehow I also didnt think Thuba should have left so early... more votes need to  go their way and we all know pink for pink blue for blue

The sad thing is we cnt c the voting stats maybe it was really close. By the by, i agree on nt seeing the voting stats coz it will create a bias! I agree wit u on the race, but 2/4 of the idol winners were coloured

25 Feb 2009 08:05

Gareth was talking about this on his show this morning, he thinks people are not voting based on talent but on popularity...and he even said that he thought Thabs & Thuba were better than some of the people that are still there!

Vesa
25 Feb 2009 08:07

@ Cngle So rethabza and tsipa are nxt.the amazing race is on

I agree with you there.....did you see the  look on their faces at the end of the show on Sunday?

Vesa
25 Feb 2009 08:09

rather on Monday!

Renegade
25 Feb 2009 08:18

Eish, ya ne, this thing is sad. I was listening to Gareth as well, and some white lady called in to talk about how it can't be racist coz 80% of SA is black, and I was thinking...duh! How many of those have access to Idols?

The sad thing is that for someone like Thuba, who's from PE, he's at more of a disadvantage coz he's away from home and thus can't really campaign for his home town votes, so he has to rely on the small mercies of the viewing public...

But what I also found weird was how they told Ntsepa first that she was in, because the reality is that there's a good chance that she was also in the bottom half, so if they had show the whole bottom half, all the blacks would have been there, and made it all the more obvious...(I hope I make sense)

Bagel
25 Feb 2009 09:04

Wow. Look at all these replies..."racism this", "white people that". You should all be ashamed of yourselves! Why must the race-card always be pulled out? You do realise that this country will never get over this "racial divide" if it keeps getting made an issue (haven't you ever heard of a self-fulfilling prophecy?). But no worries, it's all good if a South African born man, whose family has been in South African for generations, gets told that he can't apply for a job because they're not accepting "Europeans". Nice double-standards eh.

cleve
25 Feb 2009 09:11

@ Bagel you have serious issues. That's the way the country is and there is no other way of looking at it. The sooner you accept it the better. We are not a rainbow nation and it will not happen anytime soon. Shows like Idols show us exactly what's happening in the country and what does BEE have to do with kids wanting to pursue their dreams.????

Renegade
25 Feb 2009 09:29

No Bagel, mina you misunderstand me, in fact, you misunderstand all of us! We are not saying it is racist, it's not. The fact that white voters vote for white ppl is up to them, coz I'm also a black voter voting for black ppl.

What I'm saying is that Idols does not provide a platform for all the contestant to be on the same par...period. A show on DSTV does not have a SA viewership, it has a white majority viewership, and we all know that, and we knew that even before the show started, and that's how we know that next week it's the other two blacks going out, although after this outcry, i'm sure there'll be fiddling with the votes(but that's another can of worms).

I think Idols must be clear about their objective, because it is clearly not about finding talent, but about who can garner the most votes. Coz even with this thing of judges having no say, how the hell is this still a talent competition?

Bagel
25 Feb 2009 09:39

@Cleve Chupa Mila...I was merely making an example of the double standards that we're living with and why racism is always an issue i.e. because people keep making it an issue. You clearly misunderstood what I wrote. By the way, what do you mean by "that's the way the country is" and "we're not a rainbow nation"? Also, for your information, BEE has a LOT to do with kids wanting to pursue their dreams. You would understand if you had ever been prejudiced by it.

Bagel
25 Feb 2009 09:42

@ Renegade, I'm not only responding to the posts, but also to the comments of Mara and some of the people on the radio. It's not to say that because a person is white/black that they will photo correspondingly. I for one voted for Thuba, and so did my fiance. One comment I do agree with, though, is that DSTV is excluding certain parts of the population my not making Idols freely available to them.

goldii
25 Feb 2009 10:08

@ Bagel none of the comments made here imply racism or that white people are racist , all I was trying to say was that people are voting along racial lines. That is a fact , there is nothing wrong with it , that's why there is this thing called freedom of choice.

As for the BEE comment . That was low . FACT: BEE benefits a privilaged few  people , the rest of the South African people are in the same boat as those Europeans who have been in this country for generations ,no matter what their colour is , otherwise there would be no squatter camps in this country and I would'nt be at work right now trying to earn a living

Please do not confuse apples with oranges

Toxic
25 Feb 2009 10:23

start a facebook group to campaign for votes for those people that deserve to be on the competition.

If it's in my face, i will vote. i don't have dstv and therefore don't know who these people are and i didn't vote. Hang on, isn't this what Mara was saying?

cleve
25 Feb 2009 11:16

By the way, what do you mean by "that's the way the country is" and "we're not a rainbow nation"?

@ Bagel,
I mean exactly that. This country is full of racism and the sooner we accept that the sooner we can take a step forward. And sometimes it's just about preferences of races and there is nothin wrong with that. So stop being defensive when there's no need to be.
