On Monday night Idols contenders Mathew Moolman and Suzzi Swanepoel were eliminated from the competition and this Sunday (7 March, 2009) the Top 10 finalists begin their battle for the win with the first live Idols spectacular.
The spectaculars are being recorded on Thursday nights at the Teatro Mosaic in Fairlands, Johannesburg and will run for the rest of the show.
This will be the first time that the wannabe's perform for a large crowd, to the accompaniment of the Idols band - who will hopefully stay in tune in this season!
Depending on their musical mojo's, contestants may be better served to take advantage of the new seasonal innovation that allows them to accompany themselves if they wish.
The songs performed at each Spectacular will be themed week to week and the theme for the first showdown is Greatest Hits.
Here's who'll be singing what:
Cameron - “Old Time Rock and Roll” by Bob Seger
Daniel - “Your Song” by Elton John
Graeme - “Unchain My Heart” by Joe Cocker (originally performed by Ray Charles)
Jason - “With A Little Help From My Friends” by Joe Cocker (originally performed by The Beatles)
Lendel - “Lady Soul” by DJ Jazzy D (originally performed by The Temptations)
Lize - “Hallelujah” by Jeff Buckley (originally performed by Leonard Cohen)
Ntsepa - “Dancing in the Street” by The Power of Seven (originally performed by Martha and the Vandellas)
Pixie - “Against All Odds” by Phil Collins
Sasha Lee - “I Will Love Again” by Laura Branigan
Thembi - “Always be my Baby” by Mariah Carey
Tickets for the Spectaculars are available at Computicket. Prices: R40 for seated and R20 for extra strong standing.
Over and above the M-Net broadcasts, the show can now be viewed in simulcast on Easyview, as well as on the Magic World channel on DStv Compact. After each Sunday night broadcast the performances are also avaialble online on M-Net website.
Lines for Sunday's show open at 17h30. A limit of 100 votes per telephone number is allowed for each contestant. As per usual the voting lines are open for 24 hours and the results will be revealed on Monday evening (9 March) during the 19h00 Results Show.
