My 2 and a half year old child has been "diagnosed" with ADD. He's been sick recently and his paediatrician said once he's off his medication I must come and get some "drops" which will, I presume, assist with his behaviour and such. From what I understand the medication is a trial and error process and is supposed to tame him. I did a bit of research on ADD about a year ago as I strongly suspected he showed too many "symptoms" but my mom said I should let him grow out of it.
I'm confused now as the nurse at the doctor's office said I should rather look at other options such as different diets etc and monitor and see what it is he eats/drinks that make him hyper. She says I won't "like" what the medication will do to him and I'll regret it as they end up looking and sounding a little "slow. Another lady mentioned her best friend's child was put on the medication and he's doing "perfectly" and that apparently there are schools meant especially for such children. That there are probably creches as well as they understand them better and have patience for them.
His intake of sweet things like sweets and juices has always been limited so I can rule that out. Somebody said something about him having to drink tartazine free juice. I've seen something like this on the labeling (somewhere) but now that I'm looking for such I can't seem to find tartazine free juice!!!
I still need to do research and find out what option will be best for him but I need to know from you if you've had personal experience, whether direct or indirect, and what can you tell me about this condition? I hear some children do actually outgrow it but also that some of them still have it even into adulthood...??? Please advice!
