I had an opportunity to attend one of the most fabulous fashion shows in Johannesburg. Arise Africa Fashion Week was held from the 12th of June 2009 to the 19th of June 2009 at the Sandton Convention Centre. I went to all the shows and got to see the fashion designing talent Africa has. 12 designers got to showcase their work. The show was hosted by Africa Fashion International which is owned by Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe.
The timing was perfect for this event since it is being held at the same time as FIFA Confederations Cup. The venue was buzzing with fashionable people and models from different parts of Africa. There were some weird and interesting fashion dress styles going on. I chose not to dress to the nines on the first night but I wore my ForeverFaith skin tight pants (I am a designer by the way).
I was in the VIP/Media Room where I got to see some of our TV and radio personalities. I would like to comment on Mrs. Motsepe’s outfit of the first night. She was wearing a beautiful golden coat and beautiful boots to match. This woman is not just beautiful on the outside. She was as hospitable as if we were guests in her house and she had a genuine smile throughout the shows. Mr. Motsepe also attended the shows and he looked fabulous in his jackets.
I won’t mention everyone but I will point out the ones who stuck to my mind. Miss. Penny Lebeyane attended all the shows as well and she never faulted on her style. Zama Ngcobo looked cute in a purple jersey-turned dress with beautiful shoes (I love shoes). The girl has beautiful legs to show but she disappointed me in pants that hid her body the next day. I wanted to offer my services as her fashion designer and stylist (Zama call me for Image Transformation). I was happy she finally got rid of the different berets she wore three days in a row.
KB also showed up with her fine long legs in a red short wrap around dress and red stilettos. This girl must get a Veet contract with those lovely legs. Terry Pheto was also there looking simple in jeans. Not much to say. My favourite personality, Miss Bitch’s Brew, Khuli Roberts fascinated me with her bravery of wearing an animal print trench coat and goggles. Well animal print is still hot as it made its presence among some designer’s collections. The goggles, sunglasses at night have become a trend. Even David Tlale kept his on as well.
The Twins from YFM came through on the first night looking like their usual selves. I love their hair and well they looked good in their jeans too. My highlight was Phat Joe wearing a black suite last night. Mmmm…brother looked yummy I could bite him by just looking at him. Some celebrities I saw did not really make an impact with whatever they had on. Just to name a few, I saw Gerry Rantseli and her husband, Yvonne Chaka-chaka-Mhinga and hubby (who had to sit between two gorgeous white women in short dresses), Johanna Makhalemele, Augustine Masilela and some other famous faces.
How can I forget Stoan Seate? I guess his Carducci look has made him to look like he is not dressed up anymore. Junior Motaung was there as well in a grey suit. I wished the jacket was one of those tailored, body hugging ones like Stoan’s ones. Sizwe Dlomo was at last night show. He was one of the models wearing a yellow Carducci number. Damn boy he looked hot for words. He had the ladies cheering for him as he strutted on stage.
And to add to the hot boys lists we were graced by the three yummy boys, Kwela Tebza who performed in C squared suits. Well these boys usually look hotter than last night though. Happy Birthday Tebogo from Kwela for yesterday. Now you are just a year closer to being old enough for me to have you. Mmmm….
I will fill you in on the shows in the next article and tell you what I wore to all the shows
I was inspired by a couple of them while there were a few disappointing ones.
