Kitchen essentials

I was browsing through a magazine, they had a section on top 10 appliances every kitchen must have.  Was wondering whether we really need appliances in our kitchens with the economic meltdown, but hey, it is assumed it is what every kitchen must have.

The 10 are:

Mixer

mixer

Kettle

kettle

Coffeemaker

coffee maker

Tin opener

tin opener

Stick blender

stick blender

Blender

blender

Toaster
toaster

Frying pan

frying pan

Microwave oven

microwave
Snackwich maker

snackwich
Do we really need all this appliances in our kitchens or we can really do without them or some of them?
Which one do you really think they do not need to be to be included in the list?

Images from the net googled them.

I only have 4/10 does that mean I'm LSM1? Anyway, I'm rarely ever in the kitchen...

What about pots? Dont they think that it would be best to have something to cook in.

What about a stove?

True ladies I think the microwave and kettle are the one mostly used and we cannot live without as for the others it is just luxury and waste of space.

GML
29 Jun 2009 14:21

@Mililo: I consider a stove an appliance.

Pots are kitchen essentials. Is it really necessary to have both Stick blender and Blender?

I have 6/10.

Molilo
29 Jun 2009 14:25

Yes GML a stove is an appliance, but according to the mag not essential, remember there are a lot of kitchen appliances not listed here, your rice cooker, steamer, griller, pressure cooker which I do not know what is used for, etc.

I don't think we should have all the kitchen appliances, appliances like  coffee maker, blender most of de people hav them, but they don't use these appliances 4 example I hav frying pan most of the time I forget that I hav it cuz I am used to Stove or microwave.

Most Ideal Items that a kitchen can hav:
Microwave
Kettle
Electric Stove

felfel
29 Jun 2009 14:57

Molilo u are right, those things all have synonymous functions yet different somehow. U can crush ice in a blender but not with a stick blender cos its not that strong, u cant mix dough with a food procesor, they differ in size and blades.

If u not very handy in the kitchen then u wont appreciate these things much believe me.  Thats why sum people feel better off with just a stove and two pots. One pot for the pap and another for gravy, wash the gravy pot when done and boil some water for the coffee, lol lol

To be honest with u I don't actually know where Hillbrow is, only when someone points at it do i realise that it is it. I dont know Jhb well, I'm one of those people who'll say  "when u say u live in EastGate, wats the closest town/suburb close to it that I will be familiar with?" and believe me i'l do this until u name a place thats 5times further and then i'll go "aaahh, i see where u are now" and then i'll go google that place, lol

29 Jun 2009 17:03

One pot for the pap and another for gravy, wash the gravy pot when done and boil some water for the coffee, lol lol: kwakwakwakwakwkakwakwa, usile Felfel. An empty milk/coffee tin is also useful for boiling water.....

DJ Why why
29 Jun 2009 18:19

i have only 1/10 item, i suppose that goes to announce just how friendly i am with that room in my house. If i bought a house without a kitchen, it would nt make a difference , really

dali
30 Jun 2009 07:27

Lmao @ dj i have 3/10

nice
30 Jun 2009 15:46

I have 6 out of 10, well maybe 5.5 since I do not have the fancy tin opener..........but I wont be buying the coffemaker as I am not a big coffe drinker, I buy Ricoffy/Koffiehuis for my guests and that is as far as I can accomodate them. I never use the toaster though, so I only need 5 of the appliances listed there.

I must add though the twista was something I liked from makro and I bought it but now I regret it cause I find myself chopping my onions using the cutting board!!
