Summer Promos doing it for you?

while everybody looks forward to Summer and its festivities. One of the things that I usally lkok foward to its Summer  TV Promotions by Vodacom , MTN and Coca Cola simply because they have always  had this unofficial  fierce competion  that i always see with these three brands.

here is how i think they are doing so far

Vodacom has been consistant with thier summer promos but it seeems like am getting disappointed this year or may be i have not being watching enough TV. All i see is a   summer connection boring logo but there is nothing i have seen yet. correct me if i have been missing. out. I hope they are not pulling a Metro FM  Awards on us ,i must state however that they ran an interesting ad campaingn with Single Ladies track but now we need soemthing new for Summer please. In 2008 they did that Taxi driver/traffic cop ad that i loved.

voda i am waiting.

the iritating word on everybody's lips this summer is ayoba and this is because MTN has managed to coin a very succeful summer ad campaign though the NOT ayoba and Ayoba idea has been stolen from Tropika's smooth and not smooth , they have  come  to play this year for me but its not Ayoba that is word being abused now.

well you have seen the Summmer Yammah Summahh bus that will be travelling SA and this is also because Coca Cola has been on point too with thier Summah Campaign but i hate the poor graphic work in the ad, you can clearly see that those  people were cruising in a BRT REa vaYa bus and it was digitally manupilated to seem as though they are in YAmmah Summah bus, may be i ll have to wait for the bustour to see it for myself to be convinced it exists for real.

what s the Summer ad that has thumbs up for you and please do not  mention any furniture store campaigns.

Vodacom not AYOBA.

All I would like to know, Are ppl really winning or it's just plain mislead? I mean we are in reccession and Vodacom is giving away R27 million.

I once heard ppl complaining on Dudu Khoza's show about Cell C competition, they won on radio but never recieved their prizes.

heavenly its tvsa anything goes at least you still talking about ads. i think  in the coke ad they mentioned more than one place, when i wrote this i thought it was about the bustour coke will be undertaking but as i listened over the weekend it seems they mention all the cities that will be hosting the world cup, i stand to be corrected.

@ floh I have always been sceptical about these competition until my bother's friend won a car from vodacom and from then on i thought may be its genuine but one cant help but wonder really.

Voda's ads are boring this summer. I like the MTN Ayoba ads *even though the word Ayoba lingidina*

I also love the new KFC ad of the cute family:

Boy: Mommy, why is your tummy so big?
Mom: That's because there's a baby growing in my tummy *Dad whispers something to the boy and the boy laughs*
Mom: What's so funny boys?
Boy: Daddy wants to know if there's a baby growing in your bum too
Mom: Daddy is a very funny man

I just love it!!

Yha, Vodacom just dropped the standard this summer.. Gone are the days of Yebo Feva with Mo the meerkat.... now we have to put up with u + me summer.. wth?

And Summah Yammah Summah.. is so not Ayoba... including the one about trophy tour that coca cola was saying they gon do across Africa.... and that one that has something to do with something that is happening in London...

I say that cos thats London is the only word I hear in that ad with the boy that is washing an orange chicco, and the other one comes to tell him about that London thing and he's dancing as he speaks.

MTN, which is promoting the popular anthem Ayoba, might be not be so ayoba after all.

While the giant cellular network is pushing its summer campaign “Ayoba”, kwaito singer and producer Biblos is spitting fire and claiming ownership of the word ayoba.

Biblos, real name Lebogang Ledwaba, claims the title Ayoba is his intellectual property.

He adds that he no longer watches TV because of the anger the Ayoba adverts arouse in him.

According to Biblos, in 2005 he and producer Master-T produced a song titled Ayoba for DJ Bobo.

Biblos says the song became an instant hit and the term Ayoba became popular too – not only locally, as they also got overseas gigs through his song Ayoba.

But now an angry Biblos says MTN has taken his concept and made it their own.

He adds that what annoys him the most is the fact that they are not even using him in one of the campaigns but instead “there is HHP, TKZee and Jozi who are getting money out of my hard work”.

He says: “I don’t know why they didn’t ask those people to come up with an MTN theme song.

“I did the Ayoba song and the whole of South Africa was hooked. I introduced Ingwazi and South Africans danced along – the same as Ayoba. I had a vision.”

Biblos says he has made several attempts to reach MTN but he was told to take the matter up with TKZee because they are remixing Ayoba.

He says MTN promised to include him on their tour but they failed to do that.

“I just want these people to stop using my song because I’m not getting anything.”

MTNSA PR & Communications Jocelyn Willies says MTN South Africa has followed due process in the use of the word ayoba, as well as the use of the existing TKZee song Viva la Pantsula with their current summer campaign and are not breaching anybody’s rights.

“MTN SA has an agreement with the trademark rights- holder of the word ayoba to make use thereof in connection with our campaigns until the end of 2010. MTN has also signed an agreement with Sony Music for the rights to use the TKZee song,” says Willies.

“Sony and TKZee also deny claims that any infringement of copyright has taken place from their side.”

Yha, nhe... nna the only person that i thought would say he made the work Ayoba popular was that pastor what what... that was going all ayobaness during the elections campaign.... He said ayobaness so much that even Gwede Mantashe started saying Amandlaness...

mara this ayoba thing has always being around altough it was used mostly when people were dancing and you would go ayoba yo! and this dates back to the 80s and 90s. and its resurfaced now and its used in many other experessions mara this word is old.
