Hi Bloggers

It's been a while since i blogged here i hope everyone has been good!

The reason behind this blog is my increativity (lack of a better word) on how to make this years christmas day special with my family.

Since my mom passed away 5 years ago we've been having the dullest christmases ever! and as the more organised person in the family :-) i feel obliged to bring back the great spirit we had before.

Last year i started a tradition where we buy each other christmas gifts which was great but this year i'm looking for something to make christmas even more special.

I'd like you bloggers to give me ideas, stuff you do with your friends, relatives and family which makes christmas special for you.

Your ideas will be highly appreciated!!!

Its still nice even in 2009.

If u still have granny i guess u should use her house esp in this time of recession. She would luv 2 c her grand children 2gether. You wont have 2 hire or pay 4 accommodation.

You should slaughter a sheep, buy chicken, voroso & pork.You braai/fry from chicken to pork, doing salad from coslaw to green salad, rice-papa-samp etc

Its nice when people r crying 4 being full. Bring everybody from the grand grand son & daughters, uncles & lost cousins & aunts .......It will b blast doll.

Thanks for the idea myname it's a lovey idea but, we don't have grandparents and there's too much segragation in the family so it's normally us as in dad, three siblings and sister inlaw :-(

Play family competition games. It can be uncles against aunts etc. Games like running with an egg on a spoon. Racing with both feet tied together. Filling water in a bucket using a plastic bag with holes etc.

U can also try the picnic/garden theme. Get each one the siblings and the sister in law, to make one salad, and then in the morning make pap/samp/rice and meat. Get the dining table, chairs and decorations in the garden.

Write down all the family members, get each one of them to choose a name, whoever’s name u choose, u will need to buy that person a present (U can even set up a limit , say not more than R100). This is before hand of course!!!

After lunch get those very big umbrellas and some camp chairs, open up ur pressies and spent the rest of the day reminiscing outside with drinks and cool music. Nothing hectic…

That sounds nice TKSM bt not 4 my family. My aunt & uncles r 2 old 4 games. Just give them a castle lager or hansa pilsener (beers with surnames) then u will feel the luv.

the best Chirstmas for me would be to (not that i have but would love to) Got to church in the morning, and then get together with friends(not the stuck up ones) and have a Christmas Jol..sing Carols, dance, impersonate others, have tacquilas(sp)  and have fun fun fun...

I dont like the Family thing on Christmas because i have to be on my best behavior Gaad knows angikwazi ukuzibamba, plus i am flippin tired of the "your sister is married now, kanti wena ushada nini?" because i have an ansa now.."uma sekufe wena ngizoshada" with a {very big smile on my face}

collect family photos especailly old ones and get some scrap booking materials and create a new scapbook together. this will u get reminiscing on the past and it will reignite the old memories while havving fun and keeping old photos in a safer place. u know those type of photos that are pushed away in a shoebox or a very old looking album that you have not paged through the years.

going to church together first is also a good thing, that is oif u are christian.

of course a huge lucnh where everyone can just indulge is a thumbs up.

Christmas is all about immediate family gathering at  parents place regardless how old/urgly or far the home could be.

what we do ussually is having a big lunch, whereby all contributes towards  it.
Reminding ourselves how we grew up together , and lots of fun.

BUT remember BAKGWENYANA  and BOMAKOTI are not allowed, they should go visit their owns parents. They ussually spoils the mood.

since u are a very "small" family, just take a road trip, the trafic is not heavy on xmas coz most people are hungover, still drunk, going to church, etc. explore SA just on that day, u leave in the morning and come back in the evening,....voila!! ur xmas day will be gone and u wont have anything to worry about.

I like , I like.............till infinity

Mambox, go to church first thing in the morning, while others prepare lunch and when you come back have a big feast in the dining room table, eating with a forn and knife, something different.

I was concerned since I do not have a dining room table, but braai is the perfect idea, and we can play Christmas carols all day long. No slaughtering but I will buy plenty of meat and drinks so "re je nama re be re ishebe fela tje"

And games will be fun too, but am not sure if my mom will approve of us playing with food(eggs on teaspoons).

Please people list some more cheap games that one can get on with.

As a bonus, I am taking my nieces to gold reef city on Saturday morning.
