Corner Rissik and Plein
Directed by TVSA’s tha-bang

You should've seen me jump when i looked through the TV Guide and next thing I saw the name of a cyber friend listed as Director on a feature film that wil be playing on Mzansi Magic Tonight. The film is called Corner Rissik and Plein. When I first saw the name i immediately thought it could be the little brother of 90 Plein Street, but it seems this one is not filmed in Parliament or anything like that, and after reading up on it I think its opinion on politics and anything political is rather on a social, street level and not in the high-profile offices.

I shall be tuned in tonight to check out this work, which I am certain is some great piece.

*****Corner of Rissik and Plein is a tale about Mothusi Magano, (I’m sure not the real one) a hard-headed dropout and homeless street hustler in his early twenties surviving the harsh city streets of Johannesburg using his trolley, fists and wits. Mothusi is hired by Grace Mshangazinke, an unemployed Zimbabwean graduate, to carry her luggage to her husband’s flat.

Mothusi detests foreigners, and detests young black professionals even more, particularly foreign professionals. But he needs the money. Grace, on the other hand, cannot stand South Africa and its violence-prone poor, but she needs to find her husband, who has not sent any money home for the past three months.

Her children are starving and her numerous degrees cannot feed her children back in her troubled homeland. She does not know Johannesburg and is scared of it and its people, so she has to rely on Mothusi, even if she thinks him a ruffian.

The simple business exchange is complicated by two things. Grace really does not have money to pay Mothusi; she is hoping when she gets home her husband will foot the bill. And her husband is nowhere to be found. It eventually transpires that he has a whole new life that Grace knew nothing about.
So tension builds as viewers wonder how long can Grace use Mothusi to find the husband before he realises what’s going on, and wonder if Grace will end up on the streets like the many who came to Johannesburg to only have their dreams shattered. Will Mothusi’s street-smart knowledge get the better of Mothusi’s humanity? In one day, a chance encounter in the city has a dramatic impact on both characters’ lives.******

On TVSA, tha-bang is most famous for his on-the-point movie reviews through which you can notice he is sooooo film savvy.  Mina everytime I see the word "backdrop" I think tha-bang. lol. We congratulate him on this film and we support him.. all the way.

Corner Rissik and Plein will be exhibited on Mzansi Magic  tonight at 20:30... and thereafter will be available on DVD.

Thanks, GA. i was busy wondering why it doenst appear on the homepage.

Re For Colored Girls.... I have so much emotion about that film, its difficult to put it down in writing.
1. I was saying this weekend that we have mos have been watching it since January, and all of a sudden it says "premiering soon" shock! But im not too angry about that one - it just gets messy when we do that with our local productions.

2. i didnt find anything new about in that film - it was just yet another black american film about the messes in black created by irresponsibility in black families. These days everyone seems to have had an abussive relations of which the effects then ruin their whole lives.

I found it to be just another one of Tyler Perry's cliche'd storylines. And because he is Tyler Perry, it is going to take a lot at box office.

The angry emotions portrayed in that movie are just all so dramatic and just too much. That movie is sooo full of drama... and the colours... eish, I dont know... it has this sombre, morbid tone that is just sooooo depressing.

Anyway, like I said, I have so much to say, but its difficult to put it down properly. I'll try.

Re: for coloured girls.
It is quite weird indeed...they must work on releasing his staff afster here, because in the states he is currently releasing "madea's big happy family" while we just got this one.
There is a Llllloooot to say about that movie indeed. To me it was more on the fact it touched on a lot of important issues, not so much the negatives which absolutely were there, the dramatic moments especially, only few of them recited the poems in a convincing manner that wasnt disconnected....and and and.... But uah, i agree with what youve written and the fact that there is alot to say about it....

It so great to see bloggers doing well for themselves and it feels good to know that TVSA has the best talent in blogville

Yah hey.. and you know mos that once we spot them in their well-deserved successes, "i blog with him" becomes "he's a friend of mine" LOL.

So bigups tha-bang.. and we wish you the best for the future bigger productions as well. Hard work is attractive.

Bravo!i see you have worked yo ass off since yo lst project i watched.very relatable storyline.that Mothusi boy nailed his part.on a lighter and irrelevant note though that rural/conservative look Zim you were aiming at ended up looking vintagelike and Sophiatownish on GRACE-.

@Tha-bang: I watched it from beginning to end and my honest opinion is that it is a great concept with minor flaws that could be fixed with a cash injection and reshooting some scenes. 1- Sound quality is very poor 2- Crew equipment is visible 3- Some actors are too young for their roles or maybe change in costume could work. 4- Subtitles - typography, grammar, spelling, etc. I'd personally invest in the project because the overall message/concept is brilliant. I can also help with other fundraising tips: e.g. ever heard of BuyAcredit? You could get people investing R100 or even R1000 into the film and they get Producer credit - no financial benefits. IDC can help. MANY IDEAS!!!

Hey tha-bang, nice one!! A fab concept - the two lead characters particularly, very cool. I loved seeing it all thru your eyes - it's what I kept thinking.

Agree with the points made by Boodah - the sound espesh, I wasn't sure if it was my reception or the movie itself.

Re-the camera lens - found this very interesting, the water on the lens when he splashed thru the puddle, I really liked it - made it very edgy. It also made one aware of the eye of the lens, gave a strong sense of it being in the action, observing, but not judging or getting involved.

It's boring to be DISHLESS moss! .....

Brother Thabang TVSA family is happy for you even though we are not so privileged but cheers bro.

Judging from the responses, I am positive that we still gonna see it one day.

Its worse these days I’m TVLESS. My TV is broken (don’t ask it’s a long story). Anyone generous, please help!
