You may have seen the competition to win a trip to Spain for
Mad Dogs on BBC Entertainment and wondered what the series is about.
It premieres tonight (8 February) at 21h10 and it's a wild romp of man'dogs and mayhem, even though it might not seem like it on first impressions.
The action begins when four forty-something friends go on a holiday to Spain. They've been friends since they were young and each has gone off to live their lives.
The holiday's a reunion for them, paid for by Alvo (on the right in the pic), the fifth member of their group who's super rich. Alvo flies them to his villa - the best villa you've ever seen - and from there things go Mad Dog.
They start off fine of course, doing the usual things guys do: booze, shag and get up to mischief. Then, one night, Alvo gets a mysterious phonecall, a Tony Blair midget arrives and everything explodes into a roller-coaster of deception, lies and murder.
You wouldn't know that this is going to happen when it starts though. The premiere begins slowly, with little suggestions that things are going to turn whack but nothing specific happens. You suspect something might go wrong but you can't be sure - if you find this happening to you while you watch, don't stop. Watch until the end of the first episode because once you do you'll be hooked.
The series has understandably landed season after season. There are only four episodes per season - two seasons have been made so far and a third's in production.
The performances are superbo too, most particularly from
Max Beesley - who you may recognise from
Survivors - and
María Botto who plays a detective. She's a Spanish actress - this is her first English speaking role and she delivers the best performance of a detective I've ever seen. #girlcrush
Make a date to catch the premiere and use the series as an important life lesson:
never go on holiday with friends for longer than a night.
