M-Net has the rights to the hott, new TV spin-off of the movie Fargo which premiered in the US on 15 April. I say "hott" because it is.
It's the spin-off of the cult Coen Brothers
movie of the same name so it's got a lot to live up to and my first impression is that it does. I was thrilled by the pilot.
It's got a perfect mix of being true to the genre for fans of the movie but you definitely don't need to have seen the movie to enjoy it.
The story centres a drifter who goes by the name of Lorne Malvo, played by Billy Bob Thornton - the latest movie actor to see that TV's a much better place to be.
This is the official description which describes things perfectly:
A drifter named Lorne Malvo arrives in small-town Minnesota and influences the population with his malice and violence, including put-upon insurance salesman Lester Nygaard, played by Martin Freeman (of The Hobbit and The Office fame).
Other notables in it include Tom Hanks's son
Colin - who we last saw as a lunatic in Dexter - and legendary Saul from Breaking Bad,
Bob Odenkirk.
You'll see him in the trailer:
It premieres on M-Net on Thursday, 1 May at 20h30 - in place of NCIS LA 5. NCIS has gone on hiatus in the US so Fargo takes over the timeslot.
