If you're anything like me you'll have wondered about Pete Goffe-Wood's skylight. A couple of seasons ago he suddenly developed a scar on his head which he started half-hiding with hats. I've never been sure whether the scar was there in Season 1 or not and I've always wondered what it is so I decided to ask Pete about it once and for all.
I caught up with him at the M-Net Upfronts recently, quizzed him and he revealed that it was caused by a cancer scare. One of Pete's close friends is a plastic surgeon and identified it. He was visiting Pete, spotted something suspicious on Pete's head and said they needed to cut it out immediately - which they did between Seasons 1 and 2 of MasterChef.
It turned out to be benign but Pete needs to keep his head away from the sun - hence his hats. Pete's doctor friend suggested them as an alternative to sunscreen to make it easier for Pete to remember to cover up.
Pete: Ironically I've always loved hats - the 30's and 40's when men wore hats.
And so it is, the mystery is solved and Pete is well. We concluded our chatter by toasting good health.
Pete with his new cookbook which he's releasing in early December.
