Shocker! SABC2 has a line-up of premieres in May.
It's been forever since the channel's had a month of multiple new properties. Almost as long as Abo Mzala's taken to get to Season 2. As you'll see, it's back - after four years of Season 1.
Here's what coming up...
Press Release
SABC2 is excited to share the channel’s highlights for the month of May starting with the return of the much loved gospel music show Gospel Classics on Sunday 3rd May 2015 at 6pm.
The fourth season of Gospel Classics continues to take viewers down memory lane, rewinding the classics of our forefathers to current hit songs which forward to tomorrow’s classics. The series will feature local musicians including Dr Malinga, award winning gospel singer Sfiso Ncwane, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and The Bala Brothers.
Also on the 3rd we see the premiere of Season 2 of the locally produced sitcom Majakathata Records at 8pm. Set in the small town of Hammanskraal, the story unfolds in an old bakery that has been turned into a small independent music studio.
Having failed to crack it in the fast paced music industry in JHB, and being reduced to writing and producing jingles, Mojalefa “Jingles” Mohapi returned to Hammanskraal a year and a half ago to attend the funeral of his beloved mentor.
This season we welcome three new faces in the form of Phoenix Baaitse who plays the role of TT (replacing Vincent de Koker), the role of Nkadimeng is now reprised by Sello Zikalala (who replaces the late Daniel Maphatseng) and Sibongile Nojila takes over the role of Ous Dipsy replacing Gladys Tshabalala.
On the 4th of May we introduce the foreign drama mystery series Pretty Little Liars at 8pm. The show follows the lives of four girls - Spencer, Hanna, Aria, and Emily - whose clique falls apart after the disappearance of their queen bee, Alison.
Abo Mzala, which previously sat on SABC 1 in the first season, returns with a second season on Saturday 9 May 2015 at 8pm on SABC 2. Meet Thuli, Ella, Zodwa and Thandi, four single domestic workers, doing whatever they can to find Mr. Right. With ironing boards and washing machines being mere distractions for them, these “do it for yourself” women get themselves into all kinds of ridiculous situations chasing true love.
The Jamie Foxx Show makes its debut on Thursday 28th May at 8pm, featuring award winning comedian Jamie Foxx as Jamie King. The series follows a young man striving for stardom but working at his family's venerable Los Angeles hotel while honing his stand-up skills before a captive audience in the hotel's once-celebrated cocktail lounge.
Lastly, SABC2 will also carry live the broadcast of South Africa’s largest and oldest ultra- marathon The Comrades Marathon. Celebrating 90 years this year, the comrade marathon will be broadcast on Sunday 31 May 2015 from 5am-6pm.
