Common syncing All Night Long by Lionel Ritchie
The lip sync craze hits our TVs next week with the arrival of Lip Sync Battle on MTV and MTV Base. It premieres on MTV on Thursday, 9 July at 20h50 and on MTV Base on Friday (10 July) at 16h00.
In case you haven't heard of it... it's a comedy competition series that pits celebrities against each other in a lip sync showdown. It started as an insert on the American talk show Late Night Starring Jimmy Fallon and was turned into a TV series by MTV's sister channel Spike TV. It's done huge things for Spike - it set record numbers for the network and various performances have delivered millions of views on YouTube.
Its arrival on DStv comes with the exclamation mark of a once-off South African special. Local schlebs are performing in a lip sync battle at Hard Rock Cafe in Joziburg next week - their performances will be filmed and will air on MTV on Thursday, 16 July, after the second episode airs (at 21h15).
The celebsyncers haven't been finalised yet but we can confirm that MTV's Sizwe Dhlomo will perform the first number of the night. He's hosting the special so he's performing the opening sequence. Lookout for a South African version if the American one does well!
Who can we expect to see on the actual show? It's hosted by LL Cool J and schmodel Chrissy Teigen and the syncers include
Jennifer Lopez, Anna Kendrick, Common, Queen Latifah, John Legend, Emma Stone and Anna Hathaway who syncs Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus.
Here's her performance to get you in the vibe:
PS: the winners are chosen by the audience.
