24-hour news channel ANN7 has announced the nominees for the South African of the Year awards, which are in their second year this year.
The awards were launched last year in the wake of the channel's catastrophic debut which was riddled with on-air mistakes and a combo of bad and embarrassed presenters i.e. everyone involved was
very far removed from being the South African of the Year.
It seemed the awards wouldn't last longer than a year - because it seemed ANN7 wouldn't! - but the channel pushed through the disaster and has managed to make the awards an annual event.
The ceremony takes place on Saturday, 17 October this year, at the TicketPro dome. The build-up includes a daily companion show which puts the spotlight on each of the nominees so that the public can get to know them better. The show airs daily at 18h00 and it's hosted by Maps Maponyane, who announced the nominees on last night's episode.
