The Ashes to Ashes cast after the announcement
of the renewal at the e.tv Summer Upfronts.
MaAshes... the long wait for news about a second season is over.
e.tv announced a triple whammy of renewals at the channel's Summer Upfronts on Saturday (3 October) and Ashes to Ashes was in the thick of things. Umlilo, Z'bondiwe and Ashes have all landed themselves new seasons, which will roll out between March and May next year.
Ashes will start on Monday, 14 March at 20h00, immediately after Gold Diggers ends, and will continue as a telenovela so it hasn't been turned into a regular soapie.
According to e.tv's MD of Channels Monde Twala, the channel is already working on a telenovela that will take over the timeslot once Ashes ends, which strongly suggests that this is how e.tv plans to roll out the show in the future.
The set-up means that it can return for Season 3 if Season 2 is a success and also establishes a situation whereby the channel could produce a movie or a Christmas Special to give fans new storylines and extra time with the characters.
The main cast are all returning for the new season - they started filming last week - and the storylines are in the early stages so there's no confirmed news on what to expect from them yet.
