I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! arrives in South Africa for the first time next week. It premieres on ITV Choice on Tuesday, 17 October at 21h00 and airs daily: at 21h00 on weekdays and at 20h00 on the weekends.
In case you aren't familiar with the concept... a crowd of British (D-Lister) schlebs get dumped in an Australian jungle where they live together and face Fear Factor-type challenges. If (and when) they can't handle the horror of a challenge anymore, they have to scream the title of the show and they're allowed to escape.
There's so much happening on TV that it's very difficult to decide what to watch and what to avoid so I've put together 5 reasons to watch to help you decide if it's something you'd enjoy:
1. One of the appealing things about it is that it's a signature reality show through-and-through. You can see that the contestants really do face the hardships they face and you can tell that the challenges definitely aren't rigged. It's an authentic reality show for any self-respecting reality addict.
2. It's a phenomenon that's been going for 14 seasons already so it's excellent that we're getting to be part of it for the first time. It's the sort of show that generates all sorts of tabloid fodder that travels the world.
And we're watching it at the same time as everyone else so it makes us globally connected, unlike Survivor which keeps us chained to the past.
3. It's light, funny and carefree. There's a sense of laughter that bubbles under the surface, very much inspired by...
...
the hosts, Ant and Dec who brim with humour and silly asides. Their jokes are crap a lot of time which is what makes them fun.
4. It's a chillaxed show to finish off your day because of its feel-good factor. You can plonk yourself on the couch, lose yourself in their jungle, zone out and when you zone back you'll have a giggle in your shoes.
5. You don't need to know the celebs to enjoy it. You get to know them quickly and they become surprisingly interesting. At first you think,"Who cares??" with some of them but once you start getting to know them, you see why they've been cast on the show.
