SABC3's new shows: the who, what and when

On Monday we told you about the new local content changes coming up on SABC3 from July and today we can bring you the finer details.

The hosts of the channel's new talk shows have been confirmed and the details of the new series have been clarified.

Here's an overview of everything you need to know...

WEEKDAYS

Expresso extends by half an hour to air from 06h00 to 09h00.

The daily Bold and the Beautiful repeat moves from 09h00 to 10h00.

Three new talk shows will air Mondays to Fridays:

Tween Talk Live
Premiere date
: Monday, 4 July at 14h00

Tween Talk Live is a live studio interactive daily show for 9 to 12 year olds. It aims to encourage them to express themselves and learn about their world with a focus on fun, entertainment and life skills.

Real Talk
Premiere date:
Thursday, 21 July at 16h00
Hosted by: Anele Mdoda

A daytime variety and talk show featuring topical social commentary on current events, interviews with SA’s celebs, entertainers, sporting figures, web celebs and online influencers.

The show will broach relevant everyday topics, including world news, women’s issues, health, technology, finance, trends, famous faces. According to the channel, the show also aims to create a platform to #OpenUpTheIndustry.

Larger than Life
Premiere date:
Monday, 4 July at 22h00
Hosted by: Jason Goliath

An in-studio comedy talk show with a focus on celebrity interviews with a live studio audience. The show is described as: fast paced, lighthearted and fuelled by sharp-tongued insight into popular and youth culture.

MONDAYS

Divas of Jozi
Premiere date:
Monday, 4 July at 20h00

A reality show that follows six outspoken, larger than life women (single, married and divorced), living in Jozi.  The series captures uncensored moments in their lives and covers their relationships, careers, friends and families.
 
The Sober Companion
Premiere date: Monday, 4 July at 21h00

A comedy drama from Trevor Gumbi that follows four recovering addicts who try to help other addicts by becoming their sober companions, which puts their own sobriety to the test.

Flash fact: A sober companion is a “coach” or “minder” who stays with an addict as they try to reintegrate into an addiction free world.

TUESDAYS
 
Top Chef South Africa
Premiere date:
Tuesday, 5 July at 20h00
Hosted by: Lorna Maseko

A local version of the international reality show which offers a window into the competitive, pressure-filled environment of world-class cookery and the restaurant business at the highest level. The series features aspiring local chefs who compete for their shot at culinary stardom and the chance to earn the title of Top Chef South Africa.

Special Assignment moves from Sundays to Wednesdays at 21h30.

THURSDAYS
 
Top Billing

Top Billing changes time to 20h00.

FRIDAYS

Man Cave

Man Cave moves from Sundays to Fridays at 20h00.
 
Jou Ma Se Chef
Premiere date: Friday, 8 July at 21h00

A reality show featuring celebrities and comedians who team up with their mothers to cook meals.

SATURDAYS
 
Religious shows An Nur and Sadhana move to 10h30 and 11h00 respectively.
 
The Weekend Edition
Premiere date: Saturday, 9 July at 06h00 - 09h00
Hosted by: Phat Joe and Khanyi Mbau.

A spinoff of Expresso which will air on Saturdays and Sundays at the same time. The show aims to offer style, personality, interaction, active digital and social media discourse and creativity.

Cooking with Chris Smit
Premiere date: Saturday, 9 July at 16h00

A cookery show featuring Chris Smit who swopped the frenzied lifestyle and career of an executive chef for the unhurried life of a carefree country cook.
 
Social Reunion
Premiere date: Saturday, 9 July at 17h00

A docu-series produced by Tigere Media which unmasks the world of online dating. The series helps unite “virtual lovebirds” while educating viewers on the repercussions of what virtual dating can do to naïve users. Each week the show follows a pursuer (poker) as they hunt for their ideal virtual partner/fling (BAE).
 
SUNDAYS

Interface 

Interface moves from 19h00 to 21h30.

Movies

19h00 will become a new movie slot.

The Honchos

Premiere date: Sunday, 10 July at 21h00

An edutainment documentary about successful South African businessmen and women. The show gives access to their families, their businesses and their hobbies as they share how they started their businesses, the hardships they faced, how they overcame them and how they balance their business and private lives.

Phat joe hosts a radio show on saturday on metro .I wonder if this new tv show is pre-recorded or live .I hope the next phase will be dramas/telenovellas

Im still trying to understand the difference between "the weekend edition" and Real Goboza, Phat Joe will be doing 3 similar shows for SABC, he must be the boss of gossip!

@Ms Opi I really thought Phat Joe would move on to a type of show like the daily show .where he interview real celebs and politicians instead of these gossip shows .he is wasting his talent this guy .who are the productions houses behind these shows .I really hope its not Tswelopele,endemol,Clive morris again

How many talk shows do we need in this country? I mean why can etv and mzansi magic make a whole bunch of dramas and all SABC can do is give people talk shows?

Lol, I knew this 80% idea was too good to be true. That is what is bound to happen when our country is run by an unscrupulous president and his cronies. I can see that this quota is actually a ploy to lure back famous personalities and artists who started their careers at the SABC and to keep those that were prepared to jump ship. Other motives are based on politics. I can't wait to see them wearing their uniform.
