The victory of love, the defeat of doubt, an extraordinary revelation from Lerato (Tema Sebopedi) and the (highly) emotional consequences of mother-in-laws.
This is some of what we can expect from Lerato and Sechaba's (Motlatsi Mafatshe) wedding when it plays out on Isidingo on Friday, 23 September.
The ceremony was filmed in the North West in June, at the Christiana All Seasons Resort, and features special guest stars Sophie Ndaba and Ferry Jele, who play Lerato and Sechaba's mothers.
Sophie plays Lerato's straight talking mother who, as you can see from the pic, gets very overly-involved by poking her nose into business that doesn't concern her.
Ferry plays Sechaba's long lost mother who adds to his stress by suddenly arriving in a whirl of surprise. She's never been part of his life so she's on a mission to rebuild her relationship with him and decides that the wedding is the best place to do it.
Word from the production is that the sentiment of the wedding will reflect a chapter of hope for the future of the two families and their respective cultures, as they become one.
The show's art and wardrobe department focused on meshing Sotho and Tswana culture to reflect this. Isidingo's Costume Designer Julie Palmer explains: “The brief was to go traditional. We wanted a Sotho/Tswana wedding that accentuated the bright, vibrant and rich colours of the two cultures.
"It took a lot of research. It was critical for us to respect the cultures, so marrying the two together took some doing. I also wanted to add a bit of a twist to it, which I think we’ve achieved?”
The art department elaborated on this through the choice of colours for the decor and props. According to the show's Art Director Willie Coetzee, “It was important not to upstage the bride and bridal party with colours that are too bright. I therefore decided to use more earthy tones, with a little bit of gold and glitter for a pop! Lerato is, after all, a bit of a glitter girl herself."
The wedding coincides with Heritage Day on 24 September which puts an exclamation mark on the traditional themes. More pics for you to scrutenise...
