Former Generations star Sonia Mbele has her powerboost switched on and she's ready to use it on Keeping Score, SABC2's first step into the world of telenovelas.
It premieres next Monday (17 October) and it's different from other current novelas because it only airs two nights a week: on Mondays and Tuesdays at 21h30.
Sonia stars as Mmamosa, a woman whose heart has been shattered by a man. And she's NOT getting over it any time soon. It haunts her every move and motive which inspires a deep sense of revenge in her.
She pours her extreme emotion into her work at a sports academy that trains and uplifts young athletes. This from the show's official description:
In Keeping Score we see vendetta, greed and ambition unfolding through a violent corporate takeover of an all-African Sports Academy dedicated to training and uplifting young athletes by a scorned, obsessed woman, who wants to destroy the man who dumped her 25 years ago. She is willing to do whatever it takes to get it... lie, cheat, steal ... kill.
The series takes viewers deep into the sullied heart of the sports industry, a world where dreams can come true in a heartbeat, only to be crushed by the dark forces of relentless revenge, insatiable greed, all-consuming desire and merciless ambition. Keeping Score is all about playing the game of love with no rules whatsoever.
Ultimately it's like being in a touchy-feely rugby scrum with Mmamosa in charge of the ball.
Sonia's joined by a starring cast that includes Saint Seseli (Entabeni, Home Affairs, Ashes to Ashes), Maki Mokhitli (Majakathata Records, Z'bondiwe, Generations), Moliehi Makobane (eKasi Stories, Mzansi Love, Ke Ba Bolelletse), Solomon Sebothoma (Generations, The Road, Matatiele), Siyabonga Sepotokele (isiBaya) and newcomer Shalima Mkongi.
The series is created by Thandi Brewer, creator of the SABC1 dramas End Game and Usindiso. It's executively produced by Thandi's longtime producing partner Bridget Pickering of Fireworx Media, who worked with Thandi on both shows.
