Who will you have your eye on in 2018 when it comes to our rising TV stars?
I've got a special glint for Samke Makhoba because 2017's been such a break-out year for her.
Samke burst onto our screens in her first two TV roles this year and both were starring.
She starred as the troubled teen Khensani on MTV's fifth season of Shuga after landing the role through the show's open auditions and went on to star as Zanele on SABC1's comedy Rented Family, which attracted over 4-million viewers per episode.
She also pulled off a flashy age thang.
She played teens on Shuga and Rented Family but she's actually 28 and according to her, she's done absolutely nothing to look as young as she does.
I had a chat with her and she told me that it's all in her genes - she's like her mom. Her mom's in her mid-50s and looks like this:
These are four other interesting things I've discovered about her:
1. She's also passionate about directing. She loves acting but wants to direct too and already has. She completed her Honours in Film and Television at Wits this year and directed a scene in Mzansi Magic's iNumber Number.
It was a scene between Shoes and his wife in episode 10, where they reunited after being apart.
2. She's a hustler of note. She made sure she networked by getting to know everyone on set during the filming of Shuga.
She let them know what she wants to do - that she loves acting but also wants to direct and next thing Rea Rangaka, who directed on both Shuga and iNumber, asked her to direct the iNumber scene.
3. The film
Perfume: the Story of a Murderer inspired her to be a director. She loves it so much, she knows the dialogue off by heart.
4. What's been the most difficult thing about her break-out from her studies to TV? I asked and she replied:
Samke: I would say it's trying to understand a character. Trying to interpret what the director wants because you have your own vision, your own style, your own thoughts of how you should interpret something and then somebody comes with a completely different concept.
I'm from school so I have my own things. I feel so strongly about everything and anything I do so when I'm with a director I want to do things my way but I can't so I have to sit and listen. That's something I've been adjusting to, to sit and listen and observe.
So yes, Samke's my choice for Rising Star of 2017 - who's yours?
