A Glorious Human Achievement: Nelson Mandela

"When you spend two decades of your life with somebody, and you lose them, it takes time to realise what impact that person's life had on your own life and that of the rest of the world.

"This is the case with me and Nelson Mandela." – Zelda la Grange

This six-episode documentary series takes a look at Nelson Mandela's earlier life, including untold stories through the eyes of Zelda la Grange, his personal assistant of many years.

Madiba and Zelda met for the first time in 1994. At that first meeting he spoke to her in Afrikaans, a moment that changed her life forever.

With his retirement in 1999 he chose Zelda to stay by his side and they travelled the world, during which time she experienced firsthand how he touched millions of people's lives.

During 19 years by his side, Zelda had the chance to listen to stories about the people and places that had an influence on the young Nelson Mandela's life.

Five years after his death, Zelda traveled to the places that he spoke about so fondly.

This part of history was captured for the first time in this series, which is in Afrikaans with English subtitles.

It includes exclusive interviews with Graça Machel, chief Zwelivelile Mandela, Bono and Morgan Freeman.

From being surrounded at night by 700 grey reef sharks, a 300-strong gathering of blacktip, dusky and bronze sharks feeding on thousands of bait fish, to the spectacular sight of more than 200 blue sharks feeding on the carcass of a seven-ton whale; the Great Shark Chow Down is an epic celebration of sharks from around the world.

It ends with a cautionary reminder that these spectacular feasts may soon be a thing of the past as shark numbers crash worldwide.
