Floor Is Lava

Channel: Netflix South Africa
TX Time: 10h00 (all episodes)
Genre: Game Show, Comedy

Floor Is Lava

Teams compete to navigate rooms flooded with lava by leaping from chairs, hanging from curtains and swinging from chandeliers.

Yes, really. And no, not real lava. That would be silly.

The series is based on The Floor is Lava, a game in which players pretend that the floor or ground is made of lava (or any other lethal substance, such as acid or quicksand).

They must therefore avoid touching the ground, as touching the ground would "kill" the player who did so.

The History of Home

Channel: CuriosityStream (DStv 185)
TX Time: 21h00
Genre: Documentary Series, Home Improvement

The History of Home

Unlock the door to an entertaining journey around the world to explore the fascinating past, present and future of what makes our houses... homes.

The History of Home examines how the fundamental elements of daily life, such as the need for shelter, comfort, and sustenance, transformed our lives and made our houses homes.

Get insider access to some of the world's most iconic locations — from caves to castles, from presidential homes to the homes of tomorrow.

From the treetop nests of our two-million-year-old ancestors to luxurious castles all the way to 3D printed houses on Mars, this three-part series unpacks the history of humanity's diverse ways of living to understand how our dwellings have evolved with us.

World-renowned architects, designers, craftsmen and historians share extraordinary insights on every "story" of the house, from the hallways to the kitchen and upstairs to the bedroom and bathroom, pulling back the curtain on the histories and mysteries behind every room of our extraordinary homes.

Narrator Nick Offerman of Parks and Recreation fame guides viewers through every doorway and around each corner with his trademark wit and charm.

Filmed in 10 countries across four continents, the series features 35 stunning locations and many more eye-popping homes.

Each hour-long episode is shot with cutting-edge 4K camera technology.

In the series premiere, "The Foundations of Home": From humble mud bricks, to an Italian mountain with the world's most prized marble, we start with the foundations of home.

Explore the cave dwellings of our earliest ancestors and the wooden homes of Vikings, all the way to the soaring skyscrapers of modern metropolises.

Some of the incredible locations on the itinerary include: a sleek, earthen eco-retreat built of lava; and an ambitious archeological effort in France to build a medieval castle from scratch.

Other locations include Hampton Court Palace to explore the history behind King Henry VIII's brick pleasure palace; Pasadena, California, where movie buffs will recognise an iconic American Craftsman home; and San Francisco, where we meet award-winning designer Yves Béhar who is designing homes of the future.

Kids Baking Championship 5

After a nationwide search across the US, a group of talented young bakers have emerged as contenders for the title of Kids Baking Champion.

Hosts and judges Duff Goldman and Valerie Bertinelli lead these young bakers through tasty challenges designed to show off their techniques and baking prowess, from gravity-defying cakes to outrageous ice cream sandwiches.

At stake is a sweet prize package that includes an original cake featured at Duff's Charm City Cakes studio and $10,000 in prize money.

Only one will rise to become the champion in the ultimate competition to find the most impressive and creative kid baker.

In the Season 5 premeire, "#Selfieclairs": A brand-new group of kid bakers introduce themselves via delicious "Selfieclairs".

The Politician 2

Channel: Netflix South Africa
TX Time: 10h00 (all episodes)
Genre: Comedy

The Politician 2

Payton Hobart (Ben Platt) fights to unseat Dede Standish (Judith Light) in the New York State Senate race.

As a long-time incumbent and greatly admired Senate Majority Leader with no-nonsense Chief of Staff, Hadassah Gold (Bette Midler) at her side, Dede's re-election was supposed to be easy.

But Payton - who sees this as the next step on his path to the Presidency - must decide what kind of politician he ultimately wants to be in order to succeed, even if that means exposing secrets, lies and a throuple.

Meanwhile, his mother, Georgina Hobart (Gwyneth Paltrow), makes a momentous decision that threatens to upstage him and everything he's hoping to accomplish.

But if Payton wants to rise above petty politics and succeed without compromising his character, he must find his voice and strengthen his political message to inspire and excite the voters.

Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, The Politician offers a comedic and satirical glimpse into just what it takes to be a politician.

Curb Your Enthusiasm 10

Channel: M-Net (DStv 101)
TX Time: 20h30
Genre: Comedy

Curb Your Enthusiasm 10

Larry David is back - as Larry David - stumbling through one faux-pas after another in a new season of the award-winning comedy series.

As candid, unsparing and outrageous as ever, Curb Your Enthusiasm revolves around a fictionalised, gleefully misanthropic version of David as a ubiquitous camera chronicles the private, often banal world of this (relatively) public man.

The series continues to prove how seemingly trivial details of one's day-to-day life - a cold cup of coffee, a stained shirt, a missing toothbrush - can precipitate a chain of misfortune to hilarious effect.

To keep the narrative spontaneous, the series is shot without a script and cast members are given scene outlines and often improvise lines as they go.

In the Season 10 premiere, "Happy New Year": Larry kicks off the new year with new rival Mocha Joe.

At a cocktail party hosted by Jeff and Susie, Larry gets roped into lunch plans and has a misunderstanding with a caterer.

Babies: Part 2

Channel: Netflix South Africa
TX Time: 10h00 (all episodes)
Genre: Documentary Series

Babies: Part 2

Filmed over the course of three years, Babies is a landmark series that explores the miracle of the first full year of life through the pioneering work of leading scientists from across the globe.

The series examines the epic journey every person  embarks on, from helpless new-born to independent toddler.

Following  the life-changing adventures of 15 international families and featuring the latest research from eminent scientists who share their personal journeys of discovery into the infant mind, the series is filled with the exciting uncertainty of parenting, exploring each major milestone of development like never before.

From the first bond a baby shares with its parents, to learning to feed, sleep through the night, crawl across the room, speak their first words, and discover the world around them – right up to those first steps of toddlerhood.

In the last 15 years, there has been an explosion in our understanding of the baby brain.

For the first time scientists are discovering that even the youngest babies know more, see more and understand far more than we ever thought possible.

Using the latest technology and scientific research, Babies delves deep inside the baby's mind to watch the processes behind each exciting developmental step.

Amongst the world class scientists featured are Rebecca Spencer and her ground-breaking study on the importance of naps for a baby's learning; and Michael Georgieff and his hugely influential work linking iron and other micronutrients to babies' ability to form memories.

Also featured is Professor Ruth Feldman and her breakthrough discovery that the surge in oxytocin, the bonding hormone, that occurs in new mothers, can also take place in men.

There's also Professor Susan Lynch, who found that babies living with dogs and cats are better protected from developing asthma and allergies.
