Die Binnekring. Halka. The Circle. This is the Afrikaans/Turkish/English title of eExtra's new 21h30 series.
It premieres on Wednesday 1 June, the day after
Die Put ends, and it's a psychological thriller that follows two people as they pursue the truth about their identities, their fathers and an organisation known as The Circle.
It's a criminal cabal that controls the dark underbelly of Turkey, with a policy that no-one in The Circle can ever become too powerful.
The backstory
This is why they murdered mafia leader Eren Karabulut 25 years ago. He became too powerful and was a threat to The Circle so they dealt with him by kidnapping his new born baby Cihangir.
Eren was told he could save his son by meeting his kidnappers - which he did. But he didn't survive because they killed him and gave his baby to mafioso kingpin Ilhan Tepeli.
Cihangir grew up with Ilhan and has never known the truth about what happened to his father.
His mother Humeyra searched for him after Eren's death and instead of getting him back, she was given another new born baby named Kaan.
She knew he wasn't her son, but decided to raise him out of the desperation and loss she felt.
Kaan grew up believing that Humeyra is his biological mother and that his father was murdered by unknown people.
The now: the world according to Kaan
Kaan's been in prison for two years for a burglary he didn't commit and goes from suspect to investigator when a video surfaces. It reveals that Eren was murdered and the case is reopened.
The police want to find the perpetrators
and they want to take down the whole of The Circle. A clue in the video leads them to Kaan who strikes a deal with the police: he'll assist them in their investigation in return for his freedom.
Kaan is played by Kaan Yildirim and voiced by Jumaine Hansen.
The now: the world according to Cihangir
Cihangir also receives the video and discovers the truth about his upbringing. He realises that he's in the centre of The Circle, surrounded by unknown players.
Cihangir is played by Serkan Çayoglu and voiced by Wilhelm van der Walt.
What's to come
Kaan and Cihangir both embark on a quest to take down Die Binnekring.
Of course it isn't a complete story if there is no Circle of lurve.
Cihangir meets Mujde, the daughter of a criminal, and Kaan meets Bahar, the policewoman in charge of his case. Passions fly and all four are swept into the vortex.
Mudje is played by Hande Erçel and voiced by Helena Baard.
Bahar is portrayed by Hazal Subasi, voiced by Joce Engelbrecht.
