Gil Bellows is a Canadian actor best known for his first motion picture role as "Tommy" in the 1994 film The Shawshank Redemption, as CIA agent "Matt Callan" in the television series The Agency and as "Billy Thomas" in the television series Ally McBeal.
He reprised his Ally McBeal role for the short-lived spinoff series Ally in 1999, and in a 1998 crossover episode of The Practice, entitled "Axe Murderer" (Season 2, Episode 26).
He has made guest appearances in Law & Order, Flying Blind, Going To Extremes, Night Visions, The Twilight Zone, Karen Sisco, and Terminal City.
Aside from The Shawshank Redemption, other films he has appeared in include The First Season (his screen acting debut in 1988), Love and a .45 (1994), Miami Rhapsody (1995), Judas Kiss (1998), Fast Food High (2003), How's My Driving (2004) and The Weather Man (2005).
Bellows has been married to actress Rya Kihlstedt since 1994. The couple have two children.
