Bio
Jay Potter is an American actor best known for his recurring role as Roger Mills in the first season of the television drama series Rescue Me, in 2004.
He began his career performing stand-up comedy at The Playboy Club in Phoenix and soon thereafter moved to New York performing regularly at The Original Improv, the legendary Catch a Rising Star and world famous Comic Strip.
His club work soon led to television appearances on Comic Strip Live, Caroline's Comedy Hour, Evening at the Improv, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, HBO and Saturday Night Live.
Jay has worked with some of the best names in comedy — John Stewart, Chris Rock, Ray Romano, Colin Quinn, Brian Regan, Louis C.K., Caroline Rea and Susie Essman, to name a few.
Jay studied with Meisner teacher Joanna Beckson and began landing roles on All My Children, One Life to Live, Spin City, Hope & Faith and hosted the show Beyond Belief for Nickelodeon.
Jay starred in an NBC pilot about the advertising industry called Split The Difference, worked on the feature films Salt, The Good Shepherd and Che, where Jay plays 1960's CBS newscaster, Richard C. Hottelet, working opposite Benicio del Toro and Sam Robards, directed by Steven Soderbergh.
Jay also stars as Roger Mills along side Denis Leary in the first season of FX's Rescue Me. He also starred in the independent feature, Why We Cry, playing a doctor in a family drama.
Appearing Off Broadway and in regional theatres, Jay originated the roles of Martin in Jordan Seavey's play, Children At Play; Michael in David L. Paterson's Dungeons, about a yuppie trapped underground with a homeless man; and Archibald in the play Coming About — a story about a husband and wife trying to rescue their marriage while sailing aboard their yacht.
Jay played Morris Lacey in The Transport Group's production of William Inge's The Dark at the Top of the Stairs.
Jay can be seen in numerous webisodes for The Onion News Network. He is also a commercial actor, appearing in hundreds of television and radio commercials.
