Bio
Billie Piper is an English actress who began her career as a pop singer in her teens, and was well-known for her marriage to DJ Chris Evans, but is now best known for portraying Rose Tyler, companion to the Doctor in the television series Doctor Who, from 2005 to 2006.
Before her pop career took off Billie was a child actress, who had bit-parts in the movie Evita and the soapie EastEnders.
When her single Because We Want To topped the charts in 1998, 15-year-old Billie became the youngest artist to have a No.1 for 40 years.
She had a further No.1, and several other hits, before quitting music to focus on acting.
Early TV credits include Canterbury Tales: The Miller's Tale with James Nesbitt and Dennis Waterman, and Bella and the Boys.
Her big acting break came with the revival of Doctor Who in 2005, where she played Rose Tyler, alongside Christopher Eccleston. Billie returned in the second series with David Tennant as the Doctor.
She's also starred in Much Ado About Nothing, ShakespeaRe-Told, The Ruby in the Smoke and Mansfield Park.
Billie starred in the lead role of Belle in the television drama series Secret Diary of a Call Girl, from 2007-2011. She also has a starring role as Brona Croft, a poor Irish immigrant to Victorian London trying to escape a dark and sordid past, in the television horror series Penny Dreadful.
Piper was born in Swindon, Wiltshire, England to Paul Piper and Mandy Kent. Her parents changed her given name from Lianne to Billie three weeks after registering her birth.
She has one younger brother, Charlie, and two younger sisters, Harley and Ellie.
